Guillermo del Toro is perhaps better known for directing the two Hellboy films that have been made so far, but he’s also done a couple of other interesting movies in the shape of The Devil’s Backbone and its spiritual sequel Pan’s Labyrinth.
This gothic horror is set in the year of 1939 in Spain during the Spanish Civil War and tells the tale of a remote orphanage whose young inhabitants are terrorised by a decomposing spirit who stalks the dark hallways. As the film continues, the children learn the true story of Santi’s death and vow vengeance on his vicious murderer…
