Whilst the Star Trek franchise has always appealed to many science fiction fans, only the more recent "reboot" has managed to fully cross over to a mainstream audience – however, it's worth noting that many of the previous films were actually pretty good as well.

Six Feet Under is a U.S. drama series that centres on the Fisher & Sons funeral home, and explores the lives of the Fisher family after the death of the family patriarch. Nice little pun they've done with the title as well – six feet is the depth at which bodies are buried you see.

On the Buses is a British situation comedy that was rejected by the BBC, which led to the creators instead offering the show to ITV – who snapped it up and subsequently turned it into one of the most famous series' we've ever had.

The On the Buses: The Complete Series boxset contains all 74 episodes that were ever produced, along with the first installment of spin-off "Don't Drink the Water" (which is about the adventures of Blakey in Spain).

The Complete Murder in Mind £17.87

Muder in Mind was a BBC drama show that examined what it's like to kill, and why people do it in the first place. The subject matters addressed are quite deep and include euthanasia, accidental murder, contract killing, revenge and a sleepwalker who knows that she's done something but not what or to whom.

The Complete Murder in Mind boxset contains all 23 episodes ever made across nine discs. Also included is the unaired pilot, which is quite different from the rest of a very underrated show (which not too many people have seen, rather tragically).

Doctor Who: The Complete Third Series £9.85

For those that have been living under a rock, Doctor Who is a science fiction programme which depicts the adventures of a mysterious alien time-traveller who travels in what appears to be a blue 1950s police box. Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (Episodes I-III) £13.97

Whilst the original trilogy of Star Wars films still stand up as some of the best science fiction movies ever made, the long awaited prequels never really stood a chance of matching their greatness – although there are one or two iconic scenes that take place.

Count Duckula: The Complete Collection £12.85

I'm not sure that it's an entirely known fact, but the classic British animated series Count Duckula was actually a spin-off from Danger Mouse – with both characters just happening to be voiced by David Jason (more known for his roles in Only Fools and Horses and A Touch of Frost).

Inside the Count Duckula: The Complete Collection boxset you'll find all 65 episodes ever produced. Sadly there are no extra features included, which feels like something of a missed opportunity in my opinion.

Danger Mouse: 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collection £17.85

If you're a fan of classic British animation (and there's not a lot too choose from there, as far as I know!), then Danger Mouse will definitely be something you're aware of. To everyone else, it's an animated show about the world's greatest mouse detective and his bumbling sidekick Penfold who go on a series of dangerous and death-defying missions.

The Danger Mouse: 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collection boxset is a 12 disc set that contains all 161 episodes ever made. Not only that, but you also get some very good bonus material – which includes the pilot episode, interviews and a selection of interactive games.

The Shrek Trilogy £9.47

Even though they were made for kids, the Shrek trilogy appeals to adults as well – this is probably down to the all-star cast, and the fact that some of the jokes are a bit more risqué than you might expect (nothing too strong though!).

Each film has Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) dealing with all kinds of madness that happens in his life. From Donkey (Eddie Murphy) through to Fiona (Cameron Diaz), he's never short of friends – or trouble!
