The Kill Bill Collection

While everybody waits for Quentin Tarantino to get his arse into gear and release a special extended version of Kill Bill, we’ll have to make do with The Kill Bill Collection.

In this you’ll find both volumes of the epic-length revenge drama, but only a short featurette in terms of extra features. Here’s hoping that when the full edition does come out, that it contains more than this!

The Godfather Trilogy: The Coppola Restoration (Blu-Ray) £29.75

The Godfather Trilogy: The Coppola Restoration (Blu-Ray)

I would expect that by now, many people who even have a little bit of love for films will have seen at least one movie from The Godfather Trilogy. If you haven’t, then they are crime drama films that follow the lives of the Corleone family - from their rise to power to an eventual fall from grace.

The Godfather Trilogy: The Coppola Restoration, on Blu-Ray, contains all three movies in one handy boxset. As it’s a Blu-Ray release, the picture and sound have never been better - the fact that all of the bonus material from the standard DVD version is included is a nice addition too.

The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones: Volume Two - The War Years £17.97

The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones: Volume Two - The War Years

After reducing the price of the first set the other day (which has since gone back up, sadly), Amazon have decided to lower the cost of The Adventures Of Young Indiana Jones: Volume Two - The War Years now as well.

Although Harrison Ford didn’t appear in the series as a regular, he did make a cameo in one episode - which has been cut from the DVD! These are the film versions you see, which basically combined two regular episodes and removed any scenes where an older Indy reminisces about the past.

Space: 1999 - Series One (Special Edition) £29.93

Space: 1999 - Series One (Special Edition)

The Space: 1999 - Series One (Special Edition) boxset is usually quite expensive for some reason, so it’s a good idea to jump on this deal before it expires.

In it you get the first 24 episodes of the British science fiction show, along with some bonus material. This includes a "making of" documentary and various audio commentaries with the creators.

Asda have this set available for £29.93 - for more information, click here.

Tom And Jerry Classic Collection: Volumes One To Six £13.99

Tom And Jerry Classic Collection: Volumes One To Six

Fans of classic animation will no doubt either already own the Tom And Jerry Classic Collection: Volumes One To Six boxset, or plan to in the future - the price it’s at now makes it practically impossible not to buy, in my opinion anyway.

For your money you get six discs that are full of almost every single Tom And Jerry short made, which run for a total time of just under 18 hours!

Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (Blu-Ray) £11.97

Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (Blu-Ray)

Many mistakenly believe that the recent film Journey To The Centre Of The Earth is an adaptation of the Jules Verne novel, when in fact it’s simply an adventure movie that uses the book to give clues.

The Journey To The Centre Of The Earth Blu-Ray release comes with both the standard and 3D versions of the film. There’s also some bonus material, which includes a commentary and some short featurettes.

Instore at Tesco you can pick this up for £11.97. Not one of those cheap DVDs you’d go back to time and again, but one that I’m sure kids will enjoy.

Superman: The Movie (Blu-Ray) £9.95

Superman: The Movie (Blu-Ray)

From the five Superman films made thus far, Superman: The Movie is considered by most to be the best - even after some 30 years since it was released. Christopher Reeve is in excellent form as The Man Of Steel, and Gene Hackman nearly steals the whole thing with his portrayal of Lex Luthor.

Superman: The Movie, on Blu-Ray, has never looked better than it has here. Thankfully most of the special features from the standard DVD are included, such as the audio commentary and various documentaries.

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £9.95 from Zavvi. HD-DVD owners can get their version for the much cheaper price of £2.99 from HMV by clicking here.

The Great Dictator £2.99

Cheap DVDs like The Great Dictator still stand the test of time

The Great Dictator is unusual for its time period, as the United States was still formally at peace with Nazi Germany. The reason I’m mentioning this is because the film bitterly satirises Nazism and Adolf Hitler, and ends with an overt political plea to defy fascism.

Like Modern Times, this too comes with a bucketload of bonus material. The most interesting item is a documentary that parallels the lives of Chaplin and Hitler, who were both born in the same week in the same year.
