Planet Earth: The Complete Series, on Blu-Ray, contains five stunning cheap DVDs

It’s quite an irritant to some people in this country that we have to pay a license fee to get to see any television, especially when most of it goes to the BBC. But when they produce something as fantastic as documentary series Planet Earth, these cares seem to melt away - just a shame the rest of their output isn’t this great!

Not only do you get all 12 installments in high definition with the Planet Earth: The Complete Series Blu-Ray release, you also get two episodes from the "BBC Natural World" series - "Desert Lions" and "Snow Leopard: Beyond The Myth".

Speed Racer (2008) £6.99

Speed Racer (2008)

Speed Racer (2008) is a live-action adaptation of the classic 1960s Japanese anime series of the same name. Although it’s maybe not as bad as some reviews would make out, it is quite confusing who it’s aimed at - one minute it’s obviously families, then the next it’s adults (probably explains why it didn’t do too well at the box office).

Sadly there’s nothing in the way of special features, which is a pity as it would be nice to see some comparisons to the original series. Maybe a Special Edition will come out in the future.

Sex And The City: The Movie - Extended Cut From £9.99

Sex And The City: The Movie - Extended Cut (Special Edition)    Sex And The City: The Movie - Extended Cut (Blu-Ray)

Most men will probably agree with me when I say that Sex And The City: The Movie was already long enough, so an extra six minutes is a little bit pointless. Anyway, this is how much extra footage you get with the Sex And The City: The Movie - Extended Cut releases.

As both the Special Edition DVD and Blu-Ray versions come with two discs, you can expect some extra features. These include an audio commentary and other bits and bobs, plus a digital version of the film.

Click here to buy the Sex And The City: The Movie - Extended Cut (Special Edition) DVD for £9.99 from Play.com, or click here to get the Sex And The City: The Movie - Extended Cut (Blu-Ray) for £13.93 from The Hut.

The Early Hitchcock Collection £14.99

The Early Hitchcock Collection

Alfred Hitchcock has been dead for nearly 20 years, yet he is still one of the best-know and most popular directors of all-time. Without his pioneering techniques in the suspense and psychological thriller genres, there’s a chance that some of today’s biggest hits might never have been - the recent Suburbia and almost any slasher movie you can think of owe him a great deal.

The Early Hitchcock Collection is a nine disc set that contains some of the great man’s earliest works including "The Ring", "Champagne", "The Farmer’s Wife", "The Manxman", "Blackmail", "Murder!", "The Skin Game", "Rich And Strange", and "Number Seventeen". There’s also quite a bit of bonus material, such as an extensive documentary and an alternative ending to "Murder!".

Listen2Online have this available for £14.99 - for more information, click here. Fans should also check out the Hitchcock: The British Years - Special Edition boxset which is £17.99 as part of the HMV Christmas clearance.

Invasion: The Complete Series £7.89

Invasion: The Complete Series

Invasion was an American science fiction series that aired for only one season in 2005. Slightly similar to "Invasion Of The Body Snatchers", it tells the story of the aftermath of a hurricane in which water-based creatures infiltrate a small Florida town and begin to take over the inhabitants bodies through a cloning process.

Inside the Invasion: The Complete Series boxset you’ll find six discs which hold all 22 episodes, plus some extra features. These are a documentary, a short featurette, a gag reel, and some deleted scenes.

Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps: Series One To Six £26.97

Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps: Series One To Six

When the planet Earth finally gives up the ghost only two things will survive, the cockroaches and "comedy" series Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps. The very fact that this is still going after eight years is both amazing and depressing at the same time - one of the most unfunny things that’s ever been produced.

Inside the Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps: Series One To Six boxset you’ll find the first 49 episodes of the show, including the horrendous Christmas musical from 2003.

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £26.97 from Amazon.

Black Hawk Down, Tears Of The Sun, And Casualties Of War Triple Pack £4.89

Black Hawk Down, Tears Of The Sun, And Casualties Of War Triple Pack

If you’re somebody who enjoys action films, more specifically war movies, then the Black Hawk Down, Tears Of The Sun, and Casualties Of War triple pack will be right up your street.

All three films are good in their own rights, although I reckon that Tears Of The Sun is the weakest of the lot - Casualties Of War is very underrated as well, and has excellent performances from Michael J Fox and Sean Penn.

The Polar Express (Blu-Ray) £9.99

The Polar Express (Blu-Ray)

The Polar Express is an animated film adapted from the children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. It tells the story of a young boy who is whisked away on a journey to discover whether or not Santa Claus is real…

It’s never looked better than in high definition, and you’ll be glad to hear that all of the bonus material from the standard DVD release is included as well - although this only amounts to some short featurettes and a deleted scene.

HMV are selling The Polar Express, on Blu-Ray, for £9.99 - click here for more details.

FIFA World Cup 2006: All The Goals (Blu-Ray) £2.49

FIFA World Cup 2006: All The Goals (Blu-Ray)

If there’s one complaint about the FIFA World Cup 2006: All The Goals Blu-Ray disc, it’s that Zinedine Zidane’s moment of madness in the final isn’t included - I realise it wasn’t a goal, but it would have been nice to see in high definition!

As you’d expect, every goal from the tournament is included here with some absolute crackers from Torsten Frings and Tomas Rosicky. Special mention must also go to Esteban Cambiasso for his finish in Argentina’s amazing 24-pass goal against Serbia & Montenegro, and to Maxi Rodriguez for his solo effort against Mexico.

Click here to buy this for £2.49 from Sendit.com, by using the Sendit.com £1 discount voucher. Well worth adding to your collection of cheap DVDs of the HD variety, especially if you’re a footy fan.

About A Boy £1.87

About A Boy

Films that are based on books are quite often very different from the source material, so it’s refreshing to see that About A Boy sticks very close to the story told in Nick Hornby’s novel of the same name - and it’s all the better for it, in my opinion.

For such a cheap DVD there are quite a few extra features to be found, including an audio commentary with the directors and a couple of Badly Drawn Boy music videos. A featurette on the making of the movie and some deleted scenes can also be found on the disc.
