Rambo Trilogy £6.89

Rambo Trilogy

It would be far too easy to say that Sylvester Stallone isn’t a particularly good actor, but I very much doubt he would care anyway - how many other people can say they are part of two very successful franchises (bar Harrison Ford)? Both the Rock and Rambo films are still very popular today, which isn’t the case with other "serious" actors’ movies.

The Rambo Trilogy boxset contains the first three films in one handy collection, along with audio commentaries and theatrical trailers.

Click here to buy this set for £6.89 from Sendit.com. The HMV October sale has Rambo: The Complete Collection available for £14.99, if you fancy owning all four movies (including the newest one, simply titled Rambo).

Ice Cold In Alex £3

Ice Cold In Alex

Ice Cold In Alex is a British war film based on the novel of the same name by Christopher Landon. It stars the late Sir John Mills and was released under the title "Desert Attack" in America - this version also had 48 minutes cut out of it, all of which are included on this DVD.

An interesting, but pointless fact for you - in the final scene, where Mills’ character finally gets his lager, real alcohol was used. Mills had to drink numerous glassfuls until shooting was completed, and so was slightly "tipsy" by the time he’d finished.

Pop in to your local Tesco and bag this classic movie for just £3.

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat £5.99

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

The version of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat featured on this DVD was specially filmed for it and features appearances by Richard Attenborough and Joan Collins. If you were curious who’s playing Joseph, it’s none other than Donny Osmond.

Anyone that’s unsure what this is should be aware that it’s a musical based on the Biblical story of Joseph, and is told much like a story would be read to children. The songs are fairly catchy as well, which makes it that bit more enjoyable.

WH Smith are selling this for £5.99 - for more information, click here.

Toy Story And Toy Story 2: Limited Edition £10

Toy Story And Toy Story 2: Limited Edition

Both Toy Story and Toy Story 2 are good examples of the kind of fantastic work that Pixar put out, because adults can enjoy them just as much as kids can. The third one is due for release in 2010, and I expect that it will be another instant classic.

The Toy Story And Toy Story 2: Limited Edition boxset contains both films alongside a boatload of bonus material. The packaging for this set is also brilliant - it folds out into a pop-up scene from each movie.

Instore at HMV you can get this set of cheap DVDs for £10.

May I suggest that the Shameless: Series One To Five set might be a worthwhile buy?

September 18th, 2008

Shameless: Series One To Five £29.93

Shameless: Series One To Five

Shameless is a Channel 4 comedy drama series that looks at the lives of the dysfunctional Gallacher family, who live in the fictional Chatsworth Estate in Manchester. A "moving camera" filming technique is used to give the programme a much more realistic look, and it works very well.

The Shameless: Series One To Five boxset contains every episode that’s been released on DVD so far. There’s also some bonus material such as commentaries and deleted scenes.

To buy this collection for £29.93 from The Hut, simply click here.

Superbad: Extended Edition £5

Superbad: Extended Edition

Superbad is another comedy hit from the busiest producer in the world, Judd Apatow. This will probably be remembered best for the McLovin character, who truly is one of the funniest things you’ll see for some time.

The Superbad: Extended Edition DVD contains a slightly longer version of the film, along with a bonus disc full of extra features. These include an audio commentary, deleted scenes, and numerous featurettes on the making of the movie.

Click here to get it for £5 from Tesco.

The BBC Sherlock Holmes Collection £14.99

The BBC Sherlock Holmes Collection contains eight cheap DVDs

Sherlock Holmes is still a much celebrated fictional super-sleuth today, which is quite impressive when you consider that the character first appeared way back in 1887. I believe that he may have been childhood friends with Bruce Forsyth (what a terrible joke!).

The BBC Sherlock Holmes Collection contains eight adaptations featuring the great detective. These are A Study In Scarlet, The Boscombe Valley Mystery, The Hound Of The Baskervilles, The Sign Of Four, The Blue Carbuncle, The Hound Of The Baskervilles (2002), The Case Of The Silk Stocking, and The Strange Case Of Sherlock Holmes And Arthur Conan Doyle.

Play.com have this set priced at £14.99 - click here for more details.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Complete First Season (Blu-Ray) £17.80

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Complete First Season (Blu-Ray)

Certain franchises appear ripe for TV spin-offs, so it’s a little surprising that a Terminator one took so long to appear. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles revolves around the lives of Sarah and John Connor, following the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Because of the writers strike, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles - The Complete First Season (on Blu-Ray) only has nine episodes. However, this Blu-Ray version also contains all of the extra features that are missing from the standard DVD release.

Click here to buy this for £17.80 from 101 CD.
