Mamma Mia!: The Movie £9.99

Mamma Mia!: The Movie

The successful transformation of Mamma Mia! from stage to screen probably means that we’ll see a fair few more musicals at the cinema in the future. Both are based on the songs of ABBA, which seems quite odd until you actually see what they’ve done.

This Mamma Mia!: The Movie DVD is a Region 3 release, so please make sure that you can play these kind of discs before making a purchase.

The Jack Ryan Collection £5.33

The Jack Ryan Collection

Any film that’s based on a Tom Clancy novel automatically has a great source to draw from, and the character of Jack Ryan seems to be his most popular creation. There’s four movies been made that feature him so far, with more to come in the future.

The Jack Ryan Collection contains all of these movies in one handy boxset. If you didn’t know already they are The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Game, Clear And Present Danger, and The Sum Of All Fears.

Asda are selling this set for £5.33 - for more information, click here.

Sleepaway Camp Trilogy £5.99

Sleepaway Camp Trilogy

Sleepaway Camp is a horror film about a string of murders at a holiday camp and was released at a time when slasher movies were at their most popular. Two sequels, Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers, and Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland, followed five years after its release.

The Sleepaway Camp Trilogy boxset contains all three films, and each feature an audio commentary. The second and third movies also have deleted scenes, outtakes, and behind-the-scenes footage.

Shrek The Third: Special Edition £4.99

Shrek The Third: Special Edition

With a fourth Shrek film due out in 2010, and a fifth one to follow in 2013, there’s no sign of the friendly ogre disappearing any time soon. Maybe it’s just me, but it seems easy to forget that it’s Mike Myers providing Shrek’s voice - although it is a little similar to Fat Bastard in Austin Powers, I suppose.

Shrek The Third sees King Harold falling ill, which leaves Shrek and Fiona next in line to be King and Queen. Shrek decides that an ogre shouldn’t be King and learns that Arthur Pendragon is the one other heir, meaning it’s time for another adventure with old friends Donkey and Puss In Boots.

Wire In The Blood Boxsets From £9.43

Wire In The Blood: The Complete First And Second Series

There’s a couple of Wire In The Blood boxsets available for very decent prices, with the first being Wire In The Blood: The Complete First And Second Series. This ITV show teams together a university clinical psychologist (Dr Tony Hill) with a tough female Detective Inspector to look into various murders.

10 episodes in total are to be found in this set, along with exclusive interviews and deleted scenes.

Asda have this available for £9.43 - click here for more details.

Wire In The Blood: The Complete Third And Fourth Series

After the end of the third series, DCI Carol Jordan leaves to be replaced by DI Alex Fielding. She doesn’t get killed or anything, just simply ups sticks and goes - which is slightly disappointing if you’re a fan of the TV programme or novels that it’s based on.

Wire In The Blood: The Complete Third And Fourth Series contains another 8 feature-length investigations starring Robson Green. Some more interviews are included on the discs too.

Click here to get this set for the slightly higher price of £10.93 from Asda.

Juno £7

Juno

I bet you never thought that a film about unplanned teenage pregnancy could be more than watchable - Juno should change that. Although it’s perhaps a feminist movie at heart, the strong performance from Ellen Page ensures that even the most hardened cynic can’t help but enjoy this.

The DVD comes with all the features you should be used to by now, including an audio commentary and deleted scenes. There’s also some screen tests of the relatively new actors involved in the film.

Rocky: The Complete Saga £13.93

Rocky: The Complete Saga is a boxset containing six cheap DVDs

Even if you’re not a fan of Sylvester Stallone, you have to admit that the Rocky films are all (well, apart from the fifth one) iconic. Who can forget the battles with Clubber Lang, or the fight that ended the Cold War with Ivan Drago?

Rocky: The Complete Saga has all six movies in it, including the surprisingly excellent Rocky Balboa. Here’s hoping that Sly doesn’t decide to do another one, as it rounds the series off rather well.

Look Around You: Series’ One And Two £8 Each

Look Around You: Series One

The first series of BBC comedy show Look Around You both satirises and pays homage to 1970s and early 1980s educational films and school programmes, with different scientific subjects discussed in each episode.

The Look Around You: Series One DVD contains all eight "modules", as well as the original 20 minute pilot episode and an audio commentary.

Click here to buy it for £8 from Tesco.

Look Around You: Series Two

In the second series, the show moved on to lampooning the popular science programmes from the past (such as Tomorrow’s World). Sadly there’s not going to be a third series - shame, as there’s nothing quite like it on TV at the moment.

The episode length was bumper from 10 minutes up to 30, and all six can be found on the Look Around You: Series Two DVD. It also has another audio commentary and some other bits and bobs.

Click here to get this for same price of £8 from Tesco.

Roman Polanski Collection £12.99

Roman Polanski Collection

Roman Polanski has lived a bit of a troubled life, but people should always try and remember that he’s an excellent director as well. He was even in Rush Hour 3 which must mean he has some taste - actually, that probably wasn’t a good decision, as the film was cack.

The Roman Polanski Collection is a four disc boxset of his best work, containing copies of Cul-de-Sac, Knife In The Water, and Repulsion. There’s also an extra disc with eight of his early short films on it.

MovieMail are selling this for £12.99 - for more information, click here.
