Planet Earth: The Complete Series (Blu-Ray) £17.98

Planet Earth: The Complete Series (Blu-Ray) contains a total of five cheap DVDs

It's quite an irritant to some people in this country that we have to pay a license fee to get to see any television, especially when most of it goes to the BBC. But when they produce something as fantastic as documentary series Planet Earth, these cares seem to melt away – just a shame the rest of their output isn't this great!

Not only do you get all 12 installments in high definition with the Planet Earth: The Complete Series Blu-Ray release, you also get two episodes from the "BBC Natural World" series – "Desert Lions" and "Snow Leopard: Beyond The Myth".

This Is Spinal Tap: Up To 11 Edition (Blu-Ray) £10.98

This Is Spinal Tap: Up To 11 Edition (Blu-Ray)

This Is Spinal Tap is a probably the best mock musical documentary ever made which satirises the wild personal behaviour and musical pretensions of hard-rock and heavy-metal bands, as well as the uncritical tendencies of rock documentaries at the time.

Now it's out in high definition you can enjoy the sights and sounds in the best possible quality, plus you get a whole new load of special features too – including an audio commentary, a brand-new documentary, over one hour of outtakes and even "The Return Of Spinal Tap" (mostly live material from a 1992 performance at the Royal Albert Hall).

Click here to buy the This Is Spinal Tap: Up To 11 Edition, on Blu-Ray, for £10.98 from Amazon.

M. Night Shyamalan Boxset (Blu-Ray) £17.85

M. Night Shyamalan Boxset (Blu-Ray)

When The Sixth Sense became a runaway success, director M. Night Shyamalan quite literally had the world at his feet – sadly, bar Unbreakable and Signs, he's not managed to get anywhere near the brilliance of the film about dead people (probably something to do with his need for twists).

Thank goodness then that this collection contains his three best movies in glorious high definition. You'll also find hours of extra features from the standard DVDs as well, which is a nice bonus.

Zavvi have this M. Night Shyamalan boxset, on Blu-Ray, available for £17.85 – for more information, click here.

R.E.M.: Perfect Square £4.85

R.E.M.: Perfect Square

While they're certainly not everyone's cup of tea, there is no denying that R.E.M. are very good at what they do – how else could they have been going for nearly 30 years, selling out arenas around the world and having equally successful albums?!?

This R.E.M.: Perfect Square DVD captures the band performing in Wiesbaden, Germany in July 2003 and also includes a bonus documentary titled "A Stirling Performance", which chronicles their three-night stand at Stirling Castle in 1999.

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £4.85 from Zavvi.

Friends: 15th Anniversary Collection £39.68

Friends: 15th Anniversary Collection

While it just seems like yesterday the Friends finished up its ten season run (I blame e4 and their constant repeats for that!), believe it or not but we've now gone five years without the gang from Central Perk – although it's inevitable they'll be back for a film at some point.

The Friends: 15th Anniversary Collection boxset contains a whopping 40 discs which hold all 236 episodes ever made. Also included are all of the extra features missing from the original DVD release, such as audio commentaries and extended installments.

Pocahontas: Musical Masterpiece Edition £6.98

Cheap DVDs like the Pocahontas: Musical Masterpiece Edition are well worth adding to your collection

Although it's something you don't particularly think about when you're younger, it does seem surprising that almost all of the animated Disney classics are basically musicals – though I suppose that the excellent animation and stories help disguise this fact somewhat.

Anyway, this Pocahontas: Musical Masterpiece Edition DVD contains an extended version of the 1995 film (two performances of "If I Never Knew You" are added) along with hours of bonus material.

Red Cliff: The Special Edition (Blu-Ray) £9.98

Red Cliff: The Special Edition (Blu-Ray)

Red Cliff is an epic Chinese film based on the Battle Of Red Cliffs and other events during the end of the Han Dynasty, immediately prior to the period of the the Three Kingdoms in ancient China. With an estimated budget of $80 million, it's also the most expensive Asian-financed movie of all-time.

The Red Cliff: The Special Edition, on Blu-Ray, is a double disc set which comes with both parts of the film in glorious high definition. Also included are a "making of" featurette and an interview with director John Woo.

Amazon have this available for £9.99 – for more information, click here.

Nature’s Great Events (Blu-Ray) £12.97

Nature's Great Events (Blu-Ray)

Nature's Great Events is a wildlife documentary series that looks at how seasonal changes powered by the sun cause shifting weather patterns and ocean currents, which in turn create the conditions for some of the planet's most spectacular wildlife events.

With stunning picture and sound quality, this high definition release is an excellent example of the power of new technology to blow you away – definitely something you can use as a reference to show any doubters that this is the future.

Click here to get Nature's Great Events, on Blu-Ray, for £12.97 from Amazon.

John Adams £13.97

John Adams

John Adams is a 2008 American mini-series which chronicles most of President John Adams' political life, and his role in the founding of the United States. Paul Giamatti has the lead role – winning a bagful of awards for a very good performance indeed.

This three disc set contains all seven feature-length episodes, although I'm unable to confirm whether or not there are any extra features included – I don't think there are (though I could be/probably am wrong).

Click here to get this for £13.97 from Amazon.
