The Pink Panther Film And Cartoon Collection £17.99

The Pink Panther Film And Cartoon Collection

When it has appeared on this site from time to time, I’ve mentioned that it was a bit strange that The Pink Panther Collection didn’t contain all of Peter Sellers’ outings as French detective Jacques Clouseau – I should have known that another boxset was on the way!

The Pink Panther Film And Cartoon Collection contains all of Sellers’ Panther movies (including The Return Of The Pink Panther) and the complete animated series.

The Boys From The Blackstuff £7.99

The Boys From The Blackstuff is a British drama series that was originally aired back in 1982. This is a warm and humourous, but ultimately tragic, look at the way economics affect ordinary people – being that it’s a response to the end of a male working class culture destroyed by Margaret Thatcher.

This three disc set contains all five episodes, along with the original "The Black Stuff" play (which also features an audio commentary by writer Alan Bleasdale and director Jim Goddard).

The Comic Strip Presents: The Complete Collection £17.99

The Comic Strip Presents: The Complete Collection

The 80s was a pretty good year for British comedy – except that Ben Elton also became quite popular, so there’s always a drawback somewhere. Stars such as Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson (the guys in Bottom and The Young Ones) started breaking through into the mainstream.

The Comic Strip brought together some of the biggest stars of the day, including the aforementioned Mayall and Edmondson, for some feature-length films – many of which are brilliantly funny.

Movie Mail have this available for £17.99 – for more information, click here.

Wall-E: Special Edition £7.49

Wall-E: Special Edition

An interesting fact about Wall-E is that it’s the first Pixar film to feature any live action characters, which is nice. In it we follow the story of a robot called Wall-E, who is designed to clean up a polluted Earth – he gets on with his job until the appearance of another robot, who he falls in love with and follows into outer space for an adventure.

The Wall-E: Special Edition DVD has a fair few extra features, which are mainly aimed at kids (as you’d expect). These include deleted scenes, an audio commentary, a "read long" version of the movie, and a short film titled "Burn-E".

Changeling £4.99

Changeling is a film, based on real-life events in 1928 Los Angeles, that stars Angelina Jolie as a woman who is reunited with her missing son – only to discover that he is an impostor. City authorities soon vilify her as an unfit mother and brand her delusional, leading her to question if she really is mad or not…

The DVD only comes with a couple of short featurettes on the making of the movie, but it’s well worth picking up to see a great performance from Jolie (and equally excellent direction from one Clint Eastwood too).

Sharpe: The Collector’s Edition £17.99

Sharpe: The Collector's Edition

Younger people may associate Sean Bean with The Lord Of The Rings films, but I’m sure that the older viewers will remember him more for his portrayal of Richard Sharpe.

The Sharpe: The Collector’s Edition boxset contains the first 14 episodes, as well as two special installments titled "Sharpe The Legend" and "Sharpe’s Shooting". It sadly doesn’t include the 2006 Sharpe’s Challenge or 2008 Sharpe’s Peril episodes.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Blu-Ray) £6.99

The Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Blu-Ray) is one of those cheap DVDs worth adding to your HD collection

With Terminator: Salvation being released not that long ago, now is quite a good time to go back and see how great Terminator 2: Judgment Day is – and hope that any future films in the series can try and emulate its success (Salvation was very average, unfortunately).

It’s never looked or sounded better than it does in high definition, although it would have been nice to see some bonus material. I suppose the fact that this is the longer "Special Edition" cut is something of a consolation though.

To get Terminator 2: Judgment Day, on Blu-Ray, for £6.99 from HMV, click here.
