A Celebration Of British Film £10.28

A Celebration Of British Film

The only reason that Titanic is included in the boxset titled A Celebration Of British Film must be that it features Kate Winslet, and she was born in England. An incredibly tenuous link I agree, but I can think of no other explanation (other than laziness).

Also included in this 10 disc boxset are another nine movies – An Affair To Remember, Chariots Of Fire, Confetti, A Fish Called Wanda, Four Weddings And A Funeral, The Full Monty, The King And I, Mrs Henderson Presents, and The Queen.

Amazon are selling this set for £10.28 – click here for more details.

Screen Legends: Anthony Hopkins £4.89

Some, like a certain Mark Kermode, have criticised Anthony Hopkins for putting in fairly dodgy performances in films as of late – however, there was a time when he was on top form (who else could have played Hannibal Lecter to such perfection?).

The Screen Legends: Anthony Hopkins boxset contains four of his best works. 84 Charing Cross Road, The Remains Of The Day, Legends Of The Fall and Meet Joe Black are all quite good in their own right.

Hustle: Seasons One To Four £16.99

Hustle: Seasons One To Four

The BBC quite often produce bad television (Bonekickers, EastEnders, My Family, etc.), but they also sometimes actually make something worth watching – which is exactly the case with Hustle.

Inside the Hustle: Seasons One To Four boxset you’ll find the first 24 episodes of the comedy drama series about a group of thieves. The fifth season finished airing on the BBC in February, and should be appearing on DVD in January 2010.

Doomsday Collection (Blu-Ray) £22.99

For centuries many of us have wondered how the Earth might end, and with the 2012 film coming out soon I have no doubt that it will again become a popular talking point – which makes this set of three movies that deal with the subject well worth taking a look at.

The Doomsday Collection, on Blu-Ray, contains high definition versions of The Day After Tomorrow, The Day The Earth Stood Still (2009) and Independence Day. The latter is my personal recommendation, but any should satisfy any armageddon-ish cravings you may have!

Play.com are selling this set for £24.99 – click here for more details. For a limited time only, entering the code DOOMS2 will knock a further £2 off the price (hence the reason the title of this post says £22.99).

Hot Fuzz, Smokin’ Aces And Miami Vice Triple Pack £4.85

On first glance it might not seem too obvious why Hot Fuzz, Smokin’ Aces and Miami Vice have been chosen to feature together in one pack – until you realise that they all involve the police. Crafty devils those marketing people, whatever will they think of next?!?

Anyway, each film in the Hot Fuzz, Smokin’ Aces and Miami Vice triple pack are well worth a watch. Miami Vice is probably the weakest of the bunch, but I’m fairly certain you’ll come back to Hot Fuzz and the surprisingly entertaining Smokin’ Aces more than once.

Skins: Complete Series One To Three Boxset £16.95

With its hard-hitting storylines and fairly realistic portrayal of teenage life (up to a point), Skins has quickly become one of the must-see programmes on e4 – the odd decision to change the entire cast every couple of years doesn’t seem to affect its popularity too much either.

Inside the Skins: Complete Series One To Three Boxset you’ll find the 29 episodes that have been aired thus far. Also included are a range of extra features, ranging from "Unseen Skins" installments to behind-the-scenes featurettes.

Paul McCartney: In Red Square £4.85

As one of only two surviving members of The Beatles left, you would think that Paul McCartney would now simply be content with everything he has achieved – but, at the ripe old age of 67, he’s still churning out hits and will probably do so for some time to come.

The Paul McCartney: In Red Square DVD is composed of two performances in Russia during 2003, with comments from fans on why The Beatles were originally banned in between songs. Also included are an interactive guide and some exclusive "behind the scenes" footage.

Madonna: Celebration £7.99

The sad death of Michael Jackson has pretty much left the music world with one remaining true superstar, Madonna, which is quite a shame to be honest. Who would ever have thought that such songs as "Holiday" and "Like A Virgin" would still prove popular over 20 years later?

Madonna: Celebration is a two disc set which contains a whopping 47 music videos, 27 of which have never appeared on DVD before. All of your favourites are here – as is the incredibly dreadful "Die Another Day".

The Omen Pentology £8.93

The Omen Pentology contains a total of six cheap DVDs

Do you like scary movies? I don’t mean the Scary Movie films, because they got terrible after the second one – seriously, if you’ve enjoyed any of the rest of them I’d advise never speaking to me in real life.

Anyway, if you like genuine scary movies, then you’ll love The Omen Pentology boxset. This contains all five Omen films made so far, including the incredibly average 2006 remake of the fantastic original.
