The Bumper Box Of Adventure Films For Boys

In the good old days, when men where men and boys where, erm, boys, adventure films enthralled audiences all over the world. The girl was always saved and the villains always captured, usually by a bloke with a well-trimmed moustache and a twinkle in his eye.

The Bumper Box Of Adventure Films For Boys contains five of these movies, each of which will probably still entertain boys everywhere. They are Blake Of Scotland Yard, The Jungle Book, The Mark Of Zorro, My Pal Trigger, and The Son Of Monte Cristo.

Peep Show: Series Five £7.99

Peep Show: Series Five

It’s unusual for a show to not be cancelled if viewing figures aren’t particularly impressive, and it’s also strange for the same show to be recommissioned on the back of DVD sales. Peep Show is probably one of the best comedy series’ in quite some time though, so it really shouldn’t be that surprising.

In Peep Show: Series Five, Mark starts looking for "the one" again after the calamitous events of the previous year. Meanwhile Jeremy has run out of money, and lurches from one disaster to the next in trying to get some more. I won’t ruin the ending to this series, but I will say that series six should be interesting…

If you fancy this DVD, click here to get it for £7.99 from Zavvi. This and many other cheap DVDs (including Blade: The Complete Series) are also available as part of a 5 for £30 offer, so you could end up paying as little as £6.

Life On Mars: Series One And Two (Blu-Ray) £13.93 Each

Life On Mars: The Complete Series One (Blu-Ray)

Life On Mars tells the story of DCI Sam Tyler who gets hit by a car in 2006, only to wake up and find himself in 1973 where he works for Manchester and Salford CID as a DI under DCI Gene Hunt. Over the course of the show he faces various culture clashes, mostly about his modern approach to policing when compared to the traditional tactics used by his colleagues.

The Blu-Ray release of Life On Mars: The Complete Series One contains the first eight episodes in high definition, as well as some interesting bonus material.

Click here to buy this for £13.93 from The Hut.

Life On Mars: The Complete Series Two (Blu-Ray)

The genres of science fiction and police drama are mixed as the programme centres around the ambiguity concerning Tyler’s predicament - we are never sure if he’s insane, in a coma, or if he really has travelled back in time.

Life On Mars: The Complete Series Two, on Blu-Ray, has the final eight episodes along with another decent set of extra features.

Click here to buy this set for the same price of £13.93 from The Hut.

Blood Ties: The Complete First Season £6.89

Blood Ties: The Complete First Season is a collection of five cheap DVDs

If you’re a fan of Angel or Buffy The Vampire Slayer, chances are that you might be interested in Blood Ties. It was a short-lived show that investigates vampires and the supernatural - bizarrely, the main character teams up with the illegitimate son of Henry VIII!

Blood Ties: The Complete First Season contains all 22 episodes made so far. I say "so far" as there’s still some debate whether or not it will return (I think it won’t).

Moulin Rouge And Romeo + Juliet £3.89

Moulin Rouge And Romeo + Juliet

Moulin Rouge is a musical based on the Giuseppe Verdi opera La Traviata which tells the story of a young British writer and poet who falls in love with the star of the Moulin Rouge, cabaret actress and courtesan Satine.

Romeo + Juliet is a modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s romantic tragedy of the same name that aims to appeal to a younger audience - the warring families are represented as warring business empires and swords are replaced by guns.

Tom And Jerry Classic Collection: Volumes One To Six £23.97

Tom And Jerry Classic Collection: Volumes One To Six

Due to the political correctness that has invaded almost every aspect of our lives, the Tom And Jerry Classic Collection: Volumes One To Six boxset has some edits in it (generally due to perceived racism).

This is the most complete set available anywhere in the world at the moment, and in fact is only missing two cartoons from the original batch made - "Busy Buddies" and "The Million Dollar Cat". To see screenshots and information on other edits, check out this Tom and Jerry censorship comparsion guide.

Inspector Morse: The Complete Series One To Eight - Collector's Edition

Colin Dexter’s popular novels about Inspector Morse were turned into an equally popular series that starred the late John Thaw as the intelligent, but flawed, policeman. In fact, there were twenty more episodes than there were novels!

Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars £4.43

Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars

When Farscape was unexpectedly cancelled in 2002, many fans were disappointed that they didn’t get any kind of conclusion to the cliffhanger at the end of the last season, or to some of the elements of the series in general.

In 2004, Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars was produced to appease exactly these disappointments. This big-budget mini-series does a nice job of rounding things off, so I expect that fans will be happy after watching it.
