Dinotopia: The Series

There’s a bit of a story behind Dinotopia: The Series. It started off life as three illustrated books, then these were then expanded upon in a series of novels, which were in turn made into a mini-series - this proved pretty successful, so was finally made into a fully-fledged show (which only lasted the one season).

A group of people known as Outsiders live outside the laws of Dinotopia, and are considered incredibly dangerous. As you can possibly tell by the title, there’s also dinosaurs to contend with - which include including the Pteranodon, Tyrannosaurus, and crocodile-like Mosasaurs.

The Simpsons: The Complete Sixth Season £14.99

The Simpsons: The Complete Sixth Season

If The Simpsons Movie had been made five or six years ago, it would have been much better - in my opinion anyway. It’s a pity that what we got instead was basically an extended episode with very few funny moments (Spider-Pig and something else I’m forgetting).

The Simpsons: The Complete Sixth Season is a four disc set that contains 25 episodes of the hit animated show, including the first part of the classic "Who Shot Mr Burns?". You also get some interesting bonus material like deleted scenes and audio commentaries.

Braindead £3.99

Braindead

Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson was, for a time, more known for his horror films with such titles as Bad Taste and Meet The Feebles shocking audiences with some seriously depraved stuff.

Braindead is another such movie, and is a zombie comedy slapstick that still holds the world record for most fake blood used in a single film. The opening half is pretty low-key, but it then starts to get out of control very quickly.

Play.com have this DVD available for £3.99 - click here for more details.

Red Dwarf: The Complete Collection £34.99

Red Dwarf: The Complete Collection

Many, many shows attempt to combine comedy with science fiction and fail miserably - Red Dwarf, however, did it fantastically well. Some have criticised the last two years for being poor, but I’m of the belief that it was just that the first six series’ were always going to be difficult to top. Who knows, the one-off special planned for next year might be brilliant…

Red Dwarf: The Complete Collection is due for release on the 10th of November, and will contain every single episode made up to this point. No word yet on whether any of extra features will be included, but here’s hoping they are.

The Coen Brothers’ Collection £9

The Coen Brothers' Collection

With the recent success of No Country For Old Men thrusting the Coen brothers back into the limelight once again, it’s good to go back and see some of their earlier work.

The Coen Brothers’ Collection contains four of their best films - namely Barton Fink, The Big Lebowski, Blood Simple, and The Hudsucker Proxy. There’s an audio commentary on Blood Simple, and Barton Fink comes with deleted scenes and a still gallery.

Wallace & Gromit: 3 Cracking Adventures is one of those cheap DVDs which represent great value for money

Though they’ve since gone on to big-screen success, Wallace and Gromit are more fondly remembered in this country for their first three small-screen outings - A Grand Day Out, The Wrong Trousers, and A Close Shave.

The Wallace & Gromit: 3 Cracking Adventures DVD contains each of these short animated films in one handy collection. Each won a BAFTA award for best animated film, and the last two also won Academy Awards as well.

Fight Club: Special Edition £3.99

Fight Club: Special Edition

Fight Club is adapted from the book of the same name, and is really a black comedy that represents the conflict between young people and the value system of advertising - the fighting is used as a metaphor for feeling based on this conflict.

The Fight Club: Special Edition DVD is a double disc set that comes packed with special features. An audio commentary, deleted scenes, and a music video are just some of what you get.

‘Allo ‘Allo!: Series One And Two £7.99

'Allo 'Allo!: Series One And Two

Although many wouldn’t admit it, most of ‘Allo ‘Allo! was about laughing at the French - Officer Crabtree, with his "good moaning" and "I was pissing by the door when I heard two shats", being a clear example of this.

The ‘Allo ‘Allo!: Series One And Two boxset contains the first 13 episodes of the World War II comedy across three discs.
