Rocky: The Complete Saga £16.93

Rocky: The Complete Saga

Sylvester Stallone has never really been known for his acting skills, although it has to be said that he’s a much better actor than most muscle-bound meatheads (hello Arnold). He’s also been quite lucky, as two of his roles have gone on to become big franchises - Rambo and my personal favourite, Rocky.

Rocky: The Complete Saga is a boxset which contains all six films in the series, including Rocky Balboa which is right up there with the original and Rocky IV in terms of greatness.

Click here to get this set of cheap DVDs for £16.93 from Asda, but be quick as this is a one day only offer (Wednesday the 27th of August, for anyone in the future).

Saw IV: Extreme Edition £5

Saw IV: Extreme Edition

Even though the events of Saw III might make it seem impossible, Saw IV continues the story of the Jigsaw killer and his obsession with teaching people the value of their own lives.

The Saw IV: Extreme Edition DVD contains a slightly longer version of the film, as well as a whole bucketload of bonus material.

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £5 from Play.com.

The Jack Ryan Collection £5.43

The Jack Ryan Collection

Tom Clancy has always written very good novels, which have more often than not been turned into watchable films. I’m personally waiting for a movie version of Rainbow Six (which might never happen, sadly).

The Jack Ryan Collection contains four such films - The Hunt For Red October, Patriot Games, Clear And Present Danger, and The Sum Of All Fears. These all feature the character of Jack Ryan (portrayed by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford twice, and Ben Affleck).

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service: Ultimate Edition £3.96

On Her Majesty's Secret Service: Ultimate Edition

Considering that On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is George Lazenby’s only appearance as James Bond, it’s surprising how good it is. The plot follows very closely to that of the novel, and Lazenby makes Bond seem more human - from considering resigning from MI6 to his tragic marriage, through to the daughter of a Corsican crime syndicate leader.

The On Her Majesty’s Secret Service: Ultimate Edition DVD is a two disc set which comes packed with extra features. An audio commentary, multiple featurettes, and an interactive guide are just scratching the surface of what’s contained.

uWish are selling this for only £3.96 - for more information, click here.

28 Days Later And 28 Weeks Later Boxset £5

28 Days Later And 28 Weeks Later Boxset

28 Days Later set the standard for any new zombie-type films everywhere, with its eerie shots of a deserted London and fairly realistic looking undead. The story is very compelling as well, which you can’t say for many horror movies.

The sequel, 28 Weeks Later, is just as good. After the US reveal that the virus has contained and Britain can be rebuilt, things turn out a lot worse than anyone could have expected - parallels to the Iraq war are very obvious.

Jonathan Creek: Complete Series One To Four & The Christmas Specials £25.98

The Jonathan Creek: Complete Series One To Four & The Christmas Specials boxset contains nine cheap DVDs

Jonathan Creek was quite unusual for a drama series in that it featured comic characters, comic sub-plots, and actors associated with comedy roles putting in straight performances. After a break of four years, a Christmas special will be shown this year.

The Jonathan Creek: Complete Series One To Four & The Christmas Specials boxset does exactly what it says on the tin. All 25 episodes are present and correct, and you also get some interesting bonus material as well.

The Shield: The Complete Sixth Season £14.97

The Shield: The Complete Sixth Season

Enjoy The Shield while you still can, as the seventh season has been confirmed as being the last. I suppose there’s an outside chance that a film could be made at some point, but it’s by no means guaranteed.

The Shield: The Complete Sixth Season contains all 11 episodes, in the year where Vic and the Strike Team are in disarray after the events of season five. I’d suggest you watch it before getting this set.

No Country For Old Men £5

No Country For Old Men

Even though Javier Bardem has one of the worst haircuts this side of Carlos Valderrama in No Country For Old Men, he still manages to put in a brilliant performance. Perhaps it’s the hair that makes him appear so menacing.

Unusually for a film, this stays incredibly faithful to the original 2005 novel with only minor parts removed (probably for pacing). The DVD is very light on extras, so don’t be too surprised if a Special Edition appears within the next year.

Play.com have this available for £5 - click here for more details.
