Doctor Who: New Beginnings £4.93

You'll find three cheap DVDs inside the Doctor Who: New Beginnings boxset

It’s all well and good seeing the newer versions of Doctor Who, but it’s also nice to look back at some of the earlier incarnations of the Doctor. Some may think that Tom Baker and company were better in the role than David Tennant or Christopher Eccleston – they’d be wrong, but they might still think that!

The Doctor Who: New Beginnings boxset is a three disc set that contains the serials "The Keeper Of Traken", "Logopolis" and "Castrovalva", as well as a host of bonus features. These also mark the final two appearances of Baker, and the first of Peter Davidson.

V: The Complete Collection £17.87

V: The Complete Collection

V is a science fiction franchise about aliens known as "The Visitors" trying to take over Earth, and the human resistance group attempting to stop them. The series is currently being remade by the team behind The 4400, and will begin airing either late this year or early next.

Inside the eight disc V: The Complete Collection boxset you’ll find every episode of every series that has been produced thus far. This means that V: The Original Miniseries, V: The Final Battle and V: The Complete TV Series are all present and correct – there’s little in the way of bonus material though, except an audio commentary and documentary on the original miniseries.

Argos have this available for £17.87 – for more information, click here.

No Country For Old Men (Blu-Ray) £7.98

No Country For Old Men (Blu-Ray)

No Country For Old Men is a crime thriller adapted from the Cormac McCarthy novel of the same name, and tells the story of a botched drug deal and the ensuing cat-and-mouse drama, as three men crisscross each other’s paths in the desert landscape of 1980s West Texas.

Three featurettes are included along with the film on this high definition release, which I must say looks and sounds absolutely fantastic. Not surprising really, as the movie itself came out in 2007 (and was easily one of the best of that year).

If you fancy No Country For Old Men, on Blu-Ray, click here to buy it for £7.98 from Amazon.

28 Days Later & 28 Weeks Later Double Pack (Blu-Ray) £8.93

28 Days Later & 28 Weeks Later Double Pack (Blu-Ray)

The future of zombie films was changed forever in 2002, when 28 Days Later became a massive hit on both sides of the pond. Gone were the shambling and slow undead, and in their place were supremely fast creatures who could outrun some of the best athletes in the world – and Cillian Murphy.

Inside the 28 Days Later & 28 Weeks Later double pack, on Blu-Ray, you’ll find the excellent original and equally good sequel in high definition. It must be said that these aren’t the best examples of the format, but the picture and sound is definitely better than the previous DVD release.

The Hut are selling this set of cheap DVDs for £8.93 – click here for more details.

The Tomorrow People: Series Eight

The Tomorrow People was a children’s science fiction show which first ran between 1973 and 1979. It was re-imagined in 1992, with a third incarnation running between 2001 and 2007 that saw a return to the original conception and characters (but this time produced as a collection of audio plays) – all three are connected by having the dubious honour of being cancelled midway through their scheduled runs.

You can now get all eight years of the original programme on DVD, with prices starting at £2.99 each. It’s worth pointing out that individual series’ come with their own unique extra features, which include audio commentaries and documentaries (amongst other stuff).

Stanley Kubrick Special Edition Boxset £16.98

Noted for his scrupulous care when choosing subjects, his slow method of working, the variety of genres that he worked in, his technical perfectionism and his reclusiveness about his films and personal life, Stanley Kubrick is rightly regarded as one of the most innovative, influential and intriguing directors in the history of cinema.

Inside the Stanley Kubrick Special Edition Boxset you’ll find five of his very best works. 2001: A Space Odyysey, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut all come with their own unique extra features – also included is the "Stanley Kubrick: A Life In Pictures" documentary.
