Cold Feet: The Complete Collection £17.98

Cold Feet: The Complete Collection

Many people enjoyed comedy drama series Cold Feet, but it does have one thing to answer for – it kick-started the career of James Nesbitt. The Yellow Pages adverts he used to do were enough to put me off watching anything he’s ever in ever again, I’m afraid.

Cold Feet: The Complete Collection is an 11 disc set that contains all 32 episodes from the five series’ that were made. There’s also some bonus material looking at the making of the programme.

Carry On: The Ultimate Collection £29.99

Although there is still talk that a long-mooted production titled "Carry On London" will appear at some point in the future, I think it’s safe to say that it will probably be nowhere near as funny as any of the original films – even though some of these have lost a bit of their charm over the years.

Carry On: The Ultimate Collection is a massive 30 disc boxset which contains every movie from the series (bar "Carry On Columbus, which has been held up by legal issues) and the full "Carry On Laughing" sitcom, along with a smattering of special features.

The Coen Brothers’ Collection £3.99

The Coen Brothers' Collection

If you’ve only heard of The Coen Brothers because of the success of No Country For Old Men, then The Coen Brothers’ Collection gives you a good chance to see some of their excellent earlier stuff.

Barton Fink, The Big Lebowski, Blood Simple, and The Hudsucker Proxy are all very good in their own right. Bonus features wise you get an audio commentary on Blood Simple, and some deleted scenes on Barton Fink.

Joey: The Complete First Season £4.99

Joey was an American sitcom that starred Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, reprising the role that made him popular in Friends. Sadly the show suffered from pretty terrible viewing figures, and was cancelled midway through the second year.

Joey: The Complete First Season contains the initial 24 installments. There aren’t any extra features included, which really isn’t that surprising based on the unpopularity of the programme.

Mad About You: The Complete First Season £4.49

Mad About You was a U.S. sitcom that aired between 1992 and 1999, and starred Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt as a newly married couple living in New York City – Reiser played a documentary film-maker and Hunt was a public relations specialist.

Inside the Mad About You: The Complete First Season boxset you’ll find the first 22 episodes. Sadly there are no extra features, but the episodes themselves should be entertaining enough, to be honest.

Greatest Ever… Urban Boxset £6.93

It’s sometimes a little difficult to categorise exactly what constitutes an urban movie, but it’s safe to say that if there’s a gloomy feel about it (and violence is either seen or implied) then it’s one. Some good examples are to be found in this Greatest Ever… Urban Boxset.

8 Mile, Boyz N The Hood. Do The Right Thing, Lockdown and Gridlock’d are all very good in their own rights, with 8 Mile and Boyz N The Hood in particular being well worth a watch.

Asda have this set available for £6.93 – for more information, click here.

Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps: Series One To Four £15.47

Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps: Series One To Four

Many comedy series’ end long before their time, whilst many more are rightfully cancelled for being as funny as piles – and then there’s Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, a show that has lasted for an astonishing seven years (even though the jokes in it weren’t even considered funny in 1972).

The Two Pints Of Lager & A Packet Of Crisps: Series One To Four boxset contains the first 31 episodes across five discs. No special features are included, which is probably a blessing in disguise.

If you fancy this set, click here to buy it for £15.47 from Amazon.

Die Hard And Die Hard 2: Die Harder Double Pack £2.93

When the first Die Hard was released back in 1988, it was considered one of the best action films of its era – probably due to the fact that there are fewer artificial plot points than in many other movies in the genre (Bruce Willis playing a sympathetic hero with typical human weaknesses, unlike overpowered heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone also helps).

The Die Hard and Die Hard 2: Die Harder double pack contains the still-excellent original along with the slightly inferior sequel. Neither have any extra features, but the two really speak for themselves to be honest.

Batman: The Animated Series – Volumes One And Two £6.49 Each

Batman: The Animated Series - Volume One    Batman: The Animated Series - Volume Two

Although it’s fair to say that many attempts at turning comic books into animated series’ end up quite badly, Batman: The Animated Series is very much the exception to the rule – in fact, many fans believe it is the closest likeness to the original DC character.

Inside the two release of the series so far you’ll find 28 installments, along with a whole plethora of bonus material. Most interesting of this is the pilot episode, which looks much different to the finished article.

Click here to buy Batman: The Animated Series – Volume One for £6.49, or click here to get Batman: The Animated Series – Volume Two for the same price from the same retailer.

Laurence Olivier: Shakespeare Collection £27.99

Many actors have taken on roles in adaptations of William Shakespeare’s work, but few have done it as well as Laurence Olivier. Not content with just starring in one, he took on parts in a total of six different films over the course of nearly 50 years.

The Laurence Olivier: Shakespeare Collection boxset contains all six, plus a bonus disc which holds an interview with Michael Parkinson from the 1970s. As You Like It, Henry V, Hamlet, Richard III, The Merchant Of Venice and King Lear are all very good films, incidentally.

HMV are selling this for £27.99 – click here for more details.
