Carry On: Doctors And Nurses Collection

The Carry On films fall into the marmite category - you either love them or hate them. The Carry On: Doctors And Nurses Collection contains six of them that have some sort of medical connection (hence the title).

Five are quite obvious (Carry On Doctor, Carry On Again Doctor, Carry On Loving, Carry On Matron and That’s Carry On), but Carry On Emmannuelle is an odd inclusion - perhaps it was included for titillation?!?

Instore at Morrisons you can pick up this six disc set for only £5.99.

UPDATE: You can also now get it for 10p less at Sendit.com. This is £5.89, for the mathematically challenged (which includes me). Click here to get it.

Star Wars: Episodes I-III £6.49 Each

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Sadly I think that Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace will be remembered more for the horrendous Jar-Jar Binks than it will the first part of an epic saga. What a genuinely terrible idea for a character.

This DVD is a two disc set which comes packed with hours of bonus material. Unfortunately there’s not an apology for the aforementioned Binks, but there is a lot of good stuff on how the film was made.

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £6.49 from HMV.

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s investigation into assassination attempts against the Senator leads him to the distant planet of Kamino, and into the middle of a separatist plot which takes the Galactic Republic to the very brink of civil war…

The Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones DVD is another double disc set with a boatload of extra features. An audio commentary, deleted scenes and TV spots are merely scratching the surface of what’s contained.

Click here to get this for the same price (£6.49) from the same retailer (HMV).

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith was probably the most anticipated Star Wars film for some time, mainly because it was an open secret that Anakin Skywalker would be turned into Darth Vader at some point during it.

I won’t ruin it for you by telling you how it happens, but lets just say that there’s a much-talked about lightsaber battle that might have something to do with it.

HMV also have this DVD (which again comes packed with bonus material) for the magical price of £6.49 - for more information, click here.

John Wayne Collection £17.99

John Wayne Collection

One of the best western actors of all time has to be John Wayne, who has such a presence on screen that he almost single-handedly defines the entire genre. A genuinely amazing guy to watch.

This John Wayne Collection contains seven of his finest performances, held together in a lovely tin box. The films are The Alamo, The Big Trail, The Comancheros, The Horse Soldiers, North To Alaska, Red River and The Undefeated.

Laurel & Hardy: The Collection £48.99

Laurel & Hardy: The Collection

Any fans of classic comedy will not doubt be salivating at the thought of 21 discs worth of Laurel & Hardy. Many of the comedy duo’s best work is included in the Laurel & Hardy: The Collection boxset, with some in colour (which is quite rare).

The surprising thing to me is that a lot of their work is still very funny today, nearly 80 years on. That’s quite a remarkable feat, I think you’ll agree.

Zavvi are selling this massive boxset for £48.99 - or more information, click here.

The Six Wives Of Henry VIII £11.99

The Six Wives Of Henry VIII

Any fans of historical drama will probably be interested in The Six Wives Of Henry VIII. It’s a series of six teleplays which each look at the lives of King Henry VIII’s wives - the most famous of which is Anne Boleyn.

This BBC show was one of the first majorly successful series’ to be videotaped entirely in colour, which is nice. It was also turned into a film which shared the same name and starred the same guy (Keith Mitchell) as the King.

28 Days Later And 28 Weeks Later Boxset £5.99

28 Days Later And 28 Weeks Later Boxset

I Am Legend may have attempted to do something original with the empty streets of New York, but it was 28 Days Later that did it first (albeit with London) and better. So boo to you Hollywood!

In 28 Days Later a powerful virus is unleashed on the British public which turns anyone who comes into contact with it into a raging loony. Within 28 days the entire country is overhelmed, although a small band of people have managed to survive - only to find out that the virus isn’t their only problem…

28 Weeks Later is the sequel and is set six months after the events of the previous movie. The good old U.S. Army declare that the virus is dead and that Britain can be rebuilt. Little do they know how wrong they are…

Click here to buy the 28 Days Later And 28 Weeks Later boxset for the reduced price of £5.99 from Play.com.

Hot Fuzz: Special Edition £3

Hot Fuzz: Special Edition

Hot Fuzz is the follow up (of sorts) to Shaun Of The Dead. I say follow up as it’s by the same guys, but has a completely different story - instead of zombies, now we have seemingly ordinary people in a small town who may or may not be hiding a dark secret.

The Hot Fuzz: Special Edition DVD contains a whopping four audio commentaries, 22 deleted scenes and many other features on the making of the film.

Pop in to your local Sainsburys and you should be able to get this for only £3.

Red Dwarf: Series’ One To Eight £6 Each

Red Dwarf: The Original Series    Red Dwarf: The Original Second Series    Red Dwarf: The Original Third Series

Red Dwarf: The Entire Fourth Series    Red Dwarf: The Entire Fifth Series    Red Dwarf: The Entire Sixth Series

Red Dwarf: The Entire And Extended Seventh Series    Red Dwarf: The Entire And Extended Eighth Series

Red Dwarf is one of the best science fiction comedy shows of all time - if we’re being honest, the competition isn’t that high. Nonetheless, the adventures of Dave Lister and company are still very funny to watch.

There’s been talk for some time about a film getting made, but I think there’s more chance that Elvis is still alive than it actually coming to fruition.

Tesco have each of the eight series’ available for £6 each - click the corresponding boxart above for more details.

Retro Revival Boxset £4.93

The Retro Revival Boxset contains three very good cheap DVDs

The Police Academy films have, quite rightly, come in for a lot of stick over the years - however, the first one is actually pretty good. The bloke who does the funny voices somehow doesn’t seem as funny now though. Shame.

This makes up one third of the Retro Revival boxset, with the other two movies being The Goonies and Gremlins. Most people like these, so I don’t have to defend them!

Click here to get this set for the slightly lower price of £4.93 from Asda.
