Troy (Blu-Ray) £9.99

Troy is an epic film concerning the Trojan War, which isn’t anything to do with viruses on your computer. It’s loosely based on the Greek poet Homer’s Iliad, but also includes material from other sources whilst frequently diverging from mythology.

The Blu-Ray version of the movie is the extended Director’s Cut, which runs for nearly 30 minutes longer than the theatrical release. All of the special features from the standard DVD release are present too, including numerous featurettes on the making of the film.

The Wire From £14.66

When it comes to The Wire, people fall into two categories - they’ve seen it and love it, or haven’t seen it and wish they’d bothered watching it on FX! This is where DVD comes in handy, as with VHS it was pretty difficult to get complete sets (or if you could, you’d end up with about 10 tapes a series).

Each season focuses on a different area in the city of Baltimore. These are - in order of appearance - the drug trade, the port, the city bureaucracy, the school system, and the print news media.

Disney Magic: Collector’s Edition £34.28

No matter what your age or sex is, everybody has a favourite Disney film - I think it’s a law or something. Although the company’s newer movies are great, it’s always worth a reminder of how much better they were in the past (I mean, would you rather watch Robin Hood or High School Musical?!?).

The Disney Magic: Collector’s Edition boxset contains 10 absolute classics. These are Alice In Wonderland, Bedknobs And Broomsticks, Brother Bear, Dinosaur, Dumbo, Mary Poppins, Mulan, Robin Hood, The Sword In The Stone, and Tarzan.

The Last King Of Scotland £3

The Last King Of Scotland tells the fictional story of a young Scottish doctor who travels to Uganda and becomes the personal physician to the dictator Idi Amin. The movie uses factual events of Amin’s rule to add a heightened sense of realism.

On the DVD you’ll find some interesting bonus material, including an audio commentary with the director, some deleted scenes, a couple of short featurettes on the making of the films, and a documentary on the real Idi Amin.

Monty Python’s Almost Complete Boxset £34.99

Anybody who loves classic British comedy will already know who Monty Python are - for everyone else, they’re a group of comedians (including John Cleese and Michael Palin) who have collaborated on some of the most hilarious films and TV series’ ever made.

Monty Python’s Almost Complete Boxset contains every episode of Monty Python’s Flying Circus, And Now For Something Completely Different, the Monty Python And The Holy Grail: Special Edition DVD, the Monty Python’s Life Of Brian: Special Edition DVD, Monty Python Live At The Hollywood Bowl, and the Monty Python’s The Meaning Of Life: Special Edition DVD.

Pop in to Zavvi and pick this up for £34.99. Incidentally, the difference between this and the complete set is that this misses out on the sampler of "The Personal Bests", the exclusive t-shirt, and the inflatable parrot.

X-Men Trilogy (Blu-Ray) £9.99

The X-Men Trilogy, on Blu-Ray, is so new that there’s no boxart for it yet. This is probably because it’s not due out until April, but at this price it’s well worth getting your order in as soon as possible.

Each of the three films vary in quality - X-Men is good, X2 is one of the best superhero movies made so far, and X-Men: The Last Stand is a bit poor. From now on there’s going to be a bunch of spin-offs that focus on particular characters, as it was believed to be getting too expensive to hire so many big-name actors for ensemble pieces.

HMV have this up for preorder at only £9.99 - click here for more details. Get your order in quick though, as this is one of those cheap DVDs that looks as though it’s probably a mis-price.

Woody Allen Collections From £10.99 Each

There are various Woody Allen Collections available from £10.99 each at a couple of different online retailers. Inside the sets you’ll find at least five of the great man’s best films - in fact, the first one has six in it. Which is nice.

The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy: Special Extended Edition £15

The Lord Of The Rings films are excellent examples of how to adapt books for the big-screen. OK, they’re maybe not as good as the novels, but there’s no denying the fact that they are still each brilliant works of art - as I’m sure the box office will tell you.

The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy: Special Extended Edition boxset is a 12 disc collection which contains the longer versions of each movie, as well as hours and hours of bonus material. Be warned that The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King is on for around four hours!

Instore at Tesco you can currently get this for £15.

Family Guy: Seasons One To Five Collector’s Pack £38.93

It’s clear to see that Family Guy has now not only shown itself to be much funnier than other comedy shows, but has actually surpassed its biggest rival - The Simpsons. Wonder if we’ll see a big-screen Family Guy movie at some point?!?

The Family Guy: Seasons One To Five Collector’s Pack contains every episode from the first four seasons. For some reason the releases in the UK have been marked wrongly, hence the reason why this doesn’t actually include the true fifth season (confusing, I know).
