Stingray: The Complete Series £14.99

Stingray is a children’s show from the same team behind such other classics as Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet. Interestingly, it was both the first Supermarionation and British programme to be filmed entirely in colour – something which seems a tad strange nowadays.

Inside the Stingray: The Complete Series boxset you’ll find all 39 episodes ever made, along with some short extra features. These include some original promotional material and a section on some of the memorabilia produced off the back of its success.

Prime Suspect: The Complete Collection £14.99

Prime Suspect: The Complete Collection contains a total of 10 cheap DVDs

Prime Suspect: The Complete Collection contains every feature-length Prime Suspect episode made so far, with Helen Mirren starring as Jane Tennison in each.

We follow her career as she rises through the police ranks to become Detective Inspector, solving some sort of difficult murder whilst she does it – something which doesn’t get as boring as it does in other programmes (hello Muder She Wrote!).

X-Men Quadrilogy (Blu-Ray) £31.89

While it’s fair to say that X-Men: The Last Stand was a bit of a mess, the other three X-Men movies are pretty good – yes, even X-Men Origins: Wolverine had some worthwhile moments (the fight scenes between Wolverine and Sabretooth are quite exciting).

The X-Men Quadrilogy is due for release soon, and contains all four films that have been made thus far. The great news is that this is also coming out in high definition, which means improved picture and sound quality for all.

Click here to pre-order the X-Men Quadrilogy, on Blu-Ray, for £31.89 from Sendit.com.

Columbo: Seasons One To Eight £33.89

Columbo: Seasons One To Eight

Instead of using the tried and trusted method of the "whodunnit" detective story cliché, Columbo instead showed the person committing the crime at the start of the episode – the plot mainly revolving around how the perpetrator would finally be exposed and arrested.

Inside the Columbo: Seasons One To Eight boxset you’ll find all 45 installments of the regular series, along with the first four TV movies from 1989. No extra features, but this will last long enough for that to matter very little…

Sendit.com have this available for £33.89 – for more information, click here.

Alien Quadrilogy £7.99

Whilst it’s fair to say that Alien Resurrection is a quite awful piece of cinema, Alien 3 is nowhere near as bad as you’d imagine – this Alien Quadrilogy boxset actually has a slightly different version of the movie as well, which makes it even more enjoyable than before.

You’ll also find the first two excellent films in the series (Alien and Aliens), along with hours and hours of bonus material. I could list it all here, but there are nine discs worth and it wouldn’t be all that exciting to read!

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £7.99 from Play.com.

Thriller: The Complete Series £28.97

Thriller was a British programme that was originally broadcast on ITV between 1973 and 1976. It’s an anthology series, with each installment having a self-contained story and its own cast – as the title suggests, each is a thriller of some sort (from tales of the supernatural to down-to-earth whodunits).

Thriller: The Complete Series is a massive 15 disc boxset that contains all 43 episodes ever made. Also included is an extended version of "Nurse Will Make It Better" and the 1974 special "Who Killed Lamb", plus a stills gallery and original set designs.

Independence Day: Definitive Edition £2.99

Independence Day: Definitive Edition

What would happen if aliens decided to conquer Earth? That’s the question posed by science fiction film Independence Day – a somewhat cheesy, but exciting, blockbuster starring Will Smith. The most memorable scene from this is probably the destruction of The White House, which is depicted on the boxart above.

The Independence Day: Definitive Edition DVD is a double disc set that comes with a few featurettes on the making of the movie, and a quite comical alternative ending. There’s the usual barrage of trailers and TV spots to be found as well.

Play.com are selling this for £2.99 – click here for more details.

Max Manus: Man Of War £5.47

Norway isn’t exactly the first country that you think of when it comes to decent war films, but Max Manus: Man Of War is just such a thing. It’s based on the real-life efforts of the resistance fighter Max Manus during the Winter War against the Soviet Union, through the outbreak of World War II and the German occupation of Norway until peacetime in 1945.

As far as I can tell, this DVD sadly comes with nothing in the way of extra features – not a big deal when you’re dealing with such a good movie, but it would have been nice to have a commentary or something.

Click here to buy this for £5.47 from Amazon. Definitely one of those cheap DVDs that is well worth picking up if you’re interested in the history behind one of the unsung heroes of WWII.
