Foo Fighters: Everywhere But Home £3.99

Foo Fighters: Everywhere But Home

After the untimely death of Kurt Cobain in 1994, drummer Dave Grohl formed the Foo Fighters as a one-man project in 1995. Prior to the release of the band’s first album, Grohl drafted in a lead guitar, drummer and bass player, and decided to take on the daunting task of lead vocals himself – something which seemed a little surprising after his time in Nirvana.

Foo Fighters: Everywhere But Home is a collection of live performances from their 2003 "One By One" tour. Extras on the DVD include an audio version of a show from Iceland and a photo gallery – it’s also worth mentioning that there’s a hidden recording of their Dublin concert (go to the main menu, select "Slane Castle", press 3 and wait for a red arrow to appear, press 8 and wait for a red arrow to appear, and finally repeat the last two steps for the numbers 2, 5, 4, and 6).

The Chaplin Collection £34.96

The Chaplin Collection

Charlie Chaplin still influences many comedians some 30 years after he died. It might not be to everyone’s taste, but it’s plain to see that in some respects he was ahead of his time – especially with his political views on the Nazis (he was strongly against them at a time when many weren’t).

The Chaplin Collection contains nine of his best works, A Woman Of Paris (the first film he made that he didn’t star in), and Charlie: The Life And Art Of Charles Chaplin (a feature-length documentary on his extraordinary life).

Dead Set £6.99

Dead Set is a BAFTA-nominated horror drama from the deranged mind of Charlie Brooker. The series is set in the Big Brother house, and chronicles a zombie outbreak that strands the housemates and production staff inside the house which quickly becomes a shelter from the undead.

On the DVD you’ll find interviews with the cast and crew, "behind the scenes" and "special effects" featurettes, and five deleted and extended scenes.

Pulp Fiction £2.99

Pulp Fiction

Rightly regarded as one of Quentin Tarantino’s best films up to this point, Pulp Fiction is probably best remembered for its fantastic soundtrack and for revitalising the career of lead man John Travolta (although it’s questionable whether this is a good or a bad thing, to be honest!).

This DVD doesn’t come with any extra features at all, but its low price point means that this doesn’t pose too much of a problem. There’s also a Special Edition available with has loads of bonus material, however it costs considerably more.

The 80’s Movie Club: For Tough Guys £10.72

The 80's Movie Club: For Tough Guys

By looking at the title of The 80’s Movie Club: For Tough Guys boxset, you’d think that all of the films inside it would be of a certain ilk (i.e. from the action and/or comedy genres). Four of them are, but the inclusion of Rain Man is a little bit on the odd side – the story of a man who has a brother with limited mental abilities isn’t exactly high on the list of most male recommendations.

Raging Bull, The Terminator, Platoon and Die Hard are much more in tune with the name of the set though. Each feature a lot of action, with Die Hard in particular having many explosions and violent death scenes.

Borders are selling this for £10.72 – click here for more details.

Death Sentence (2007) £2.89

Death Sentence (2007)

After his son is murdered by a gang as part of an initiation ritual, Nick Hume becomes a vengeful vigilante killer in Death Sentence (2007). This film is very loosely based on Brian Garfield’s 1975 novel of the same name (which is a sequel to Death Wish), although there are only minor similarities between the two.

Sadly the DVD only comes with a featurette on the making of a particular scene in the movie, which seems like a bit of a missed opportunity to me – a commentary with actor Kevin Bacon would have been nice, for a start.
