The Godfather Trilogy £8.99

For all of the criticisms of The Godfather Part III over the years, it at least has two very memorable scenes – the helicopter shooting and the final shots which show Al Pacino at his very best. The other films in the series really don’t need any kind of introduction, as they are quite simply two of the best movies ever made.

Inside The Godfather Trilogy boxset you’ll find all three films, plus audio commentaries by director Francis Ford Coppola on each. It’s also worth pointing out that The Godfather Part II is across two discs, which means you’ll have to switch over halfway through (annoyingly).

The Illusionist (2006) £2.99

2006 was a little bit of a strange year in the world of cinema, with two big releases featuring stories about magicians at the turn of the 20th century. The Prestige was quite good, but The Illusionist was considerably better – the story is much more engaging and Edward Norton is great in the lead role.

The DVD comes with an audio commentary by director Neil Burger and a featurette on the making of the movie, both of which are pretty interesting if you enjoy the film.

Fahrenheit 9/11 £2.93

Fahrenheit 9/11 is an award-winning documentary film by the ever-controversial Michael Moore. This takes a critical look at the presidency of George W. Bush, the War on Terrorism, and its coverage in the American news media – more specifically, their inaccurate and unobjective analysis of the event.

This single disc DVD only comes with a theatrical trailer, but it’s definitely worth picking up at this very low price – you might not agree 100% with what Moore has to say, but he at least makes some valid points.

Hammer House Of Horror £7.93

Hammer are known for their series of films, but they also had a short-lived TV series called Hammer House Of Horror as well. I say short-lived because it only ran for a total of 13 episodes towards the end of 1980.

This four disc set contains every installment starring such people as Pierce Brosnan, Peter Cushing, and Brian Cox. Also included is a piece on the history behind the famous studio, which is very interesting indeed.

Defiance (2008) £6.99

Instead of focusing on either the British or American point of view during World War II, Defiance instead looks at how the Polish Jews came together for common protection and to oppose the German occupation of their homeland.

The DVD is quite packed for such a film, being that it comes with a fair number of special features. These include an audio commentary by director Edward Zwick and four featurettes that look at the making of the movie.

The Ladykillers (1955) £2.89

The Ladykillers (1955) was the final comedy to be made by the legendary Ealing Studios, and what a way to go out – with one of the best movies to be made in this country. It’s best to try and forget this was remade in 2004, as it was a complete mess (even with Tom Hanks in a lead role and the Coen brothers directing).

This DVD doesn’t come with any extra features at all, which feels like something of a missed opportunity. Not to matter though, as the film itself is something you’ll probably come back to countless times in the future.

The Big Bottom Box £9.93

The huge success of BBC comedy series Bottom led the two stars, Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson, to venture upon a collection of live shows that carried on the antics of Richie and Eddie. Far cruder than the television incarnation, these simply have to be seen to be believed – pure chaos from start to finish.

The Big Bottom Box contains all five of the live performances, a "best of" DVD (which seems a little bit pointless, to be honest) and the feature-length Guest House Paradiso movie.
