Screen Icons: Gerard Depardieu

Some people don’t like to give foreign language films a chance, which is quite sad as more than a few of them are pretty good. I’m mentioning this as the Screen Icons: Gerard Depardieu boxset contains four French films. Which are entirely in French.

Contained in this set are some of the actors best works - namely Buffet Froid, Mon Pere Ce Hero, Tous Les Matins Du Monde and Le Colonel Chabert. Some good stuff here, I must say.

Extras: Complete Series One And Two Boxset £7.99

Extras: Complete Series One And Two Boxset

When the UK version of The Office finished many wondered what Ricky Gervais would do next. The answer was Extras - a show about a struggling actor called Andy Millman, his mad agent and best friend Maggie Jacobs.

The Extras: Complete Series One And Two Boxset contains all 12 episodes from the first two seasons, as well as some very good extra (get it?) features. The only thing missing from this set is last year’s Christmas special, which actually isn’t out on DVD until November.

Zavvi are selling this collection of cheap DVDs for £7.99 - for more information, click here.

The Ultimate Alien And Predator Collection £10.99

The Ultimate Alien And Predator Collection

Two of the best film franchises of all time have to be the Alien and Predator ones. When the two have been combined for the Alien Vs Predator films the results have been very disappointing. Such a waste.

The Ultimate Alien And Predator Collection contains Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien: Resurrection, Predator, Predator 2 and Alien Vs Predator - the only thing missing is Alien Vs Predator 2: Requiem (although it’s not very good anyway!).

Ideal: Series’ One And Two From £3

Ideal: Series One

Johnny Vegas is one of those comedians who you either really love or really hate. I personally fall into the latter category, but I’m aware many like him.

Ideal is a comedy programme that’s still being shown on BBC Three and in it Vegas plays the part of a drug dealer called Moz - Ideal: Series One contains all eight episodes from the first year, and runs for just over three and a half hours.

If you fancy this DVD, click here to get it for just £3 from Tesco.

Ideal: Series Two

Ideal: Series Two has another eight episodes for you to enjoy, and this particular DVD is great in that it also comes loaded with extra material.

For your money you get audio commentaries, deleted scenes and even the 2005 Christmas special - to think we used to have to make do with three episodes and nowt else back in the VHS days!

Disney Films From £4.99

There’s various Disney films available from £4.99 at some different retailers (mostly HMV).

The full list is:

Alice In Wonderland: Special Edition £5.99 (at Powerplay Direct)
Bambi: Special Edition £8.93 (at Asda)
A Bug’s Life £4.99 (at HMV)
Cars £6.99 (at HMV)
Dumbo & The Fox And The Hound £12.93 (at Asda)
Finding Nemo: Collector’s Edition £4.99 (at HMV)
The Incredibles £5.99 (at HMV)
Meet The Robinsons £4.99 (at HMV)
Monsters, Inc. £4.99 (at HMV)
Pixar Shorts £6.99 (at HMV)
Toy Story: 10th Anniversary Edition £4.99 (at HMV)
Toy Story 2: Collector’s Edition £4.99 (at HMV)

Stand-out titles for me are both the Toy Story DVDs and the Finding Nemo: Collector’s Edition - although I suppose that The Incredibles is OK as well.

UPDATE: There’s some new titles for good prices. Alice In Wonderland and the Pixar Shorts DVD look very good value.

Blood Ties: The Complete First Season From £8.98

Blood Ties: The Complete First Season

Although most people will probably be familiar with Buffy The Vampire Slayer, I’m sure that less will know about Blood Ties. The similarities between the two are obvious - cases that deal with the supernatural and vampires, as well as a lover who is also a vampire - but this is ever so slightly more serious.

Blood Ties: The Complete First Season contains all 22 episodes of what could be the one and only series (there’s still debate about whether it will return or not).

Click here to get this five disc set for £8.98 (as long as you spend £15 or more, otherwise it’s £10.43 delivered) from Amazon.

Robin Hood: Special Edition £6.99

The Robin Hood: Special Edition is one of those cheap DVDs from Disney

Is it wrong for a 25 year old male to admit to liking some Disney films? Even if it is, I wear my badge of honour with pride - it could be worse, I could be a lover of shockingly awful comedy!

The Robin Hood: Special Edition DVD contains one of the best interpretations of the classic and popular tale of stealing from the rich to give to the poor (aside from Prince Of Thieves and the Errol Flynn version, of course). As it’s a Special Edition, you also get some decent extra features - such as a short film titled "Ye Olden Days" and some deleted scenes.

Zavvi have this title available for £6.99 - click here for more details.

The Royle Family: The Collection £6.49

The Royle Family: The Collection

The Royle Family: The Collection isn’t quite the complete set of every episode. Although it has all three series’ plus the 1999 and 2000 Christmas specials, it sadly doesn’t have the Queen Of Sheba finale from 2006. Sad times.

If you’ve never seen this BBC comedy before, let me fill you in on what it’s all about. It’s basically a show about an average working class family from Manchester who deal with the big issues in life, such as whose turn it is to go to the off-license. Great stuff though.
