Danger Mouse: 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collection

If you’re a fan of classic British animation (and there’s not a lot too choose from there, as far as I know!), then Danger Mouse will definitely be something you’re aware of. To everyone else, it’s an animated show about the world’s greatest mouse detective and his bumbling sidekick Penfold who go on a series of dangerous and death-defying missions.

The Danger Mouse: 25th Anniversary Ultimate Collection boxset is a 12 disc set that contains all 161 episodes ever made. Not only that, but you also get some very good bonus material (including the pilot episode, interviews and a selection of interactive games).

Round The Twist: Series’ 1-4 £4.99 Each

Round The Twist: The Complete First Series

Round The Twist was a kids show shown on BBC One in the mid 90s. On paper it didn’t really have a lot going for it, but the odd mixture of weird stories and an Australian setting made for one of the most memorable programmes in the CBBC timeslot.

Round The Twist: The Complete First Series contains all 13 episodes from the first year, for the very first time ever (you couldn’t even get them on VHS, as far as I know).

Play.com are selling this DVD for just £4.99 - for more information, click here.

Round The Twist: The Complete Second Series

In Round The Twist: The Complete Second Series, the Twist family return for another 13 episodes of pure anarchy. This set also has an extra feature, in the form of a sing along theme tune (and what a theme tune it is!).

This series is probably the one that sticks out most in my mind. The installments where Pete turns into a chicken every time he hears the word "now", and the one where a boy turns up who can’t remove his gloves are particular highlights.

Click here to get this for the same price of £4.99 from Play.com.

Round The Twist: The Complete Third Series

If two series’ worth of mad adventures wasn’t enough for you, here’s another one. Yet again we are given 13 more episodes of the general mayhem that happens around the Twist family.

Round The Twist: The Complete Third Series is possibly the best DVD of the lot in terms of bonus material. Not only do you get a featurette on the cast, but there’s also a "Where Are They Now?" feature that’s well worth watching.

To get this for the familiar-sounding price of £4.99 from Play.com, click here.

Round The Twist: The Complete Fourth Series

Round The Twist: The Complete Fourth Series contains the last 13 episodes made of the classic Aussie kids show. Yes, after four years we say goodbye to the Twist family. *sniff*

After the initial broadcast of the series in 1990, the BBC repeated it for many years after - it was that popular. I believe in more recent times that Channel Five (Five, or whatever they’re calling themselves today) showed some of it as well.

Click here to buy this DVD for, you’ve guessed it, £4.99 from Play.com.

The Collected Adventures Of Asterix From £6.97

The Collected Adventures Of Asterix

It’s quite often been a mystery to me who actually buys the Asterix books in this country - the only place I ever seem to see them is in libraries. They’re actually alright, I’ve just never met anyone who’s bought any!

The Collected Adventures Of Asterix contains six animated films with the indomitable Asterix and his assortment of fellow oddball Gauls. These are The 12 Tasks Of Asterix, Asterix And Cleopatra, Asterix The Gaul, Asterix And Caesar, Asterix And The Big Fight and Asterix In Britain.

Click here to buy this set of cheap DVDs for £6.97 (as long as you spend £15 or more, otherwise it’s £8.42 delivered) from Amazon.

Dead Like Me: Seasons One And Two £13.99 Each

Dead Like Me: The Complete First Season

Dead Like Me is a quirky show about an 18 year old girl called George Lass. When she is hit and killed by a falling toilet seat from the MIR space station, she is bestowed with the powers of a Grim Reaper…

Dead Like Me: The Complete First Season contains all 13 episodes from the first year, as well as some decent extra features (including the unseen pilot episode).

If you fancy this set, click here to bag it for £13.99 from Play.com.

Dead Like Me: The Complete Second Season

Dead Like Me: The Complete Second Season has the final 15 episodes, as well as some more decent bonus material (deleted scenes and featurettes mainly).

I say final 15 episodes as the networks in the US decided not to make any more. Quite why they did this when the show was quite popular is something I doubt anyone fully understands.

Guess what? This is also £13.99 at Play.com - click here to get it.

Gimme Gimme Gimme: The Complete Collection £6.99

Gimme Gimme Gimme: The Complete Collection

The BBC is well known for its comedy output being very hit and miss - for every The Office and Fawlty Towers they give us After You’ve Gone and Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps. And to think we pay for it. How depressing.

Anyway, Gimme Gimme Gimme falls somewhere between the two. It’s not the funniest show you’ll ever see, but it’s not the worst either.

Gimme Gimme Gimme: The Complete Collection contains every episode ever made.

Comedy Pack £5

Comedy Pack

Following on from the Family DVD Boxset featured a few minutes ago, here’s another set that will make your bank manager happy. By that I mean you get more than one film, just in case my humour flew over your head!

This Comedy Pack contains a couple of Jack Black movies (namely the excellent School Of Rock and the semi-decent Orange County) and Without A Paddle. The latter has been criticised a little, but it’s actually OK.

Click here to get this collection for £5 from Woolworths.

Family DVD Boxset £7.99

This Family DVD Boxset contains five very good cheap DVDs

I’m sure I’m not in the minority when I say it’s great to get more than one DVD when you plonk down your money. For that reason, boxsets are brilliant - you can near enough always guarantee that you’ll get at least a couple of decent films in one set.

This is the case with this Family DVD Boxset. It contains five very good movies that everyone will enjoy - namely Chicken Run, Home Alone, Ice Age, James And The Giant Peach and Mrs Doubtfire. Great stuff.

Crime Traveller: The Complete Series £6.99

Crime Traveller: The Complete Series

Not many people will remember Crime Traveller, as it was only shown on BBC One for a short time - in fact, there were only ever eight episodes made in total.

Those that do have a recollection of it may be interested in Crime Traveller: The Complete Series. This four disc set has all eight episodes, plus an interview with the creator of the show.

The Wire: Seasons 1-3 £14.97 Each

The Wire: The Complete First Season

The Wire is quite simply one of the best drama shows to come out of the US in some time. Yes, The Sopranos was good - The Wire is much, much better though!

The Wire: The Complete First Season is a five disc set that contains all 13 episodes from the gripping first year. Seriously good stuff.

Amazon have this set priced at £14.97 - for more information, click here.

The Wire: The Complete Second Season

Each season of The Wire focuses on a different aspect of the doomed war on drugs. This second year moves away from the ghettos of Baltimore to the blue-collar environment of the city port.

The Wire: The Complete Second Season is another five disc set that contains 12 brilliant episodes of top-quality US drama. Pity we can’t make anything close to being this good in the UK.

Click here to bag this set for the same price of £14.97 from the same retailer - Amazon.

The Wire: The Complete Third Season

Charlie Brooker loves The Wire, which should be enough to make anyone at least take a look at it - he’s very particular about what he likes when it comes to TV shows!

The Wire: The Complete Third Season is yet another five disc set with 12 installments that really help hit home how big the drug trade really is. Seriously, watch it and be amazed.
