Ultimate Rambo Collection (Blu-Ray)

If you’re a fan of action films, then you’re sure to know and love the Rambo series. Even if the titles are a little confusing (the first one’s called First Blood and the fourth one’s called Rambo), the non-stop violence is enough to satisfy anyone’s lust for big explosions and multiple kills.

The Ultimate Rambo Collection, on Blu-Ray, contains all four of the movies made so far. I say "so far" as apparently there’s a couple more in the works – will they be as good as the last one though?

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £17.98 from Amazon.

Doctor Who: Lost In Time £7.37

Doctor Who: Lost In Time

It’s sad that many BBC programmes from the past have been lost from the archives forever, so we should be thankful when any attempts to preserve older material prove successful – as is the case with the three disc Doctor Who: Lost In Time release.

Disc one contains the remains of nine stories from the William Hartnell era, whilst the second and third discs hold surviving parts of 13 from the Patrick Troughton period. Additionally, selected installments have audio commentaries and there’s an updated version of the 1998 "The Missing Years" documentary.

Dawn Of The Dead (2004) £1.99

Dawn Of The Dead (2004)

Dawn Of The Dead (2004) is a remake of the 1978 classic of the same name, and retains the story of a handful of human survivors living in a shopping mall surrounded by zombies – although this time the undead are fast and agile (likely influenced by "28 Days Later").

The DVD comes with an audio commentary by director Zack Snyder and producer Eric Newman, as well as three featurettes on the making of the movie and 11 deleted scenes.

Alien Vs Predator: Collector’s Boxset (Blu-Ray) £9.78

Alien Vs Predator: Collector's Boxset (Blu-Ray)

Separately, the Alien and Predator franchises have gone from great to average – when combined, they’ve stunk the place up worse than a room full of skunks. That being said, if you’re a fan of no-brainer action films with lots of death and explosions, you’ll probably get some enjoyment out of both Alien Vs Predator films.

The Alien Vs Predator: Collector’s Boxset, on Blu-Ray, contains both average movies and a whole host of bonus material. Both look absolutely fantastic picture-wise, and the sound is top-drawer as well.

Amazon have this set of cheap DVDs available for £9.78 – for more information, click here.

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (Blu-Ray) £12.99

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (Blu-Ray)

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa continues the adventures of Alex the Lion, Gloria the Hippo, Marty the Zebra, and Melman the Giraffe. It actually starts off like a prequel, as we see how Alex was captured by hunters – not too long afterwards though it moves to just after the original film left off, with the animals deciding to return to New York.

Not only does this look and sound fantastic in high definition, you also get a whole load of special features as well. These include an audio commentary, multiple featurettes, and four music videos.

Family Guy: Complete Seasons One To Six £45.95

Family Guy: Complete Seasons One To Six

Although The Simpsons has been running longer, I would say that Family Guy is now the premier cartoon comedy show on TV. Some have criticised it for having very obvious jokes, but I still reckon it’s head and shoulders above the competition – and who really cares if jokes are obvious or not anyway?!?

The Family Guy: Complete Seasons One To Six boxset contains the first 90 episodes, alongside the Family Guy: Uncovered compilation of uncensored episodes and extra features.

If you fancy this set, click here to buy it for £45.95 from Zavvi (it goes down to this price when you add it to the basket).

Stranger Than Fiction (Blu-Ray) £5.59

Stranger Than Fiction (Blu-Ray)

Stranger Than Fiction is a comedy film about a writer who is struggling to complete her latest book, as she can’t work out a way to kill off her main character, Harold Crick. Little does she know that he is in fact alive and well in the real world, and suddenly becomes aware of her words – when he finds out what she has in mind for him, he realises he must find a way to change her (and his) ending.

This has never looked or sounded better than it does in high definition, and you’ll be glad to hear that this also comes with some extra features. A batch of deleted scenes and a couple of "behind the scenes" featurettes aren’t much, but it’s better than a kick in the pants!

Click here to get Stranger Than Fiction, on Blu-Ray, for £5.59 from Borders.

The Miss Marple Collection £38.37

The Miss Marple Collection

All twelve of Agatha Christie’s original Miss Marple novels were adapted by the BBC and aired between 1984 and 1992. Veteran actress Joan Hickson, who passed away in 1998, played the lead role – and does a much better job than the two incarnations of the more recent ITV series.

The Miss Marple Collection contains each two-hour installment across a total of 12 discs. Sadly there’s no special features of any kind, which is a pity as it would have been nice to see something about Joan Hickson in the form of a tribute.

Amazon are selling this boxset for £38.37 – click here for more details.

Jurassic Park: The Ultimate Collection £5.97

Jurassic Park: The Ultimate Collection contains a total of four cheap DVDs

I doubt very much that when Michael Crichton wrote Jurassic Park that he could imagine how huge the subsequent films would become. Although they differ quite a bit from the novels, the three films that have been made so far vary wildly in quality – the first is excellent, the second is very good, and Jurassic Park III is perhaps more on the average side of the fence.

Jurassic Park: The Ultimate Collection is a four disc set which contains Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and the aforementioned Jurassic Park III. There’s also some interesting bonus material, including extensive documentaries on each movie and numerous featurettes (this boxset also has a bonus disc featuring an exclusive "Beyond Jurassic Park" documentary).
