No Country For Old Men (Blu-Ray) £7.98

No Country For Old Men (Blu-Ray)

No Country For Old Men is a crime thriller adapted from the Cormac McCarthy novel of the same name, and tells the story of a botched drug deal and the ensuing cat-and-mouse drama, as three men crisscross each other’s paths in the desert landscape of 1980s West Texas.

Three featurettes are included along with the film on this high definition release, which I must say looks and sounds absolutely fantastic. Not surprising really, as the movie itself came out in 2007 (and was easily one of the best of that year).

28 Days Later & 28 Weeks Later Double Pack (Blu-Ray) £8.93

28 Days Later & 28 Weeks Later Double Pack (Blu-Ray)

The future of zombie films was changed forever in 2002, when 28 Days Later became a massive hit on both sides of the pond. Gone were the shambling and slow undead, and in their place were supremely fast creatures who could outrun some of the best athletes in the world – and Cillian Murphy.

Inside the 28 Days Later & 28 Weeks Later double pack, on Blu-Ray, you’ll find the excellent original and equally good sequel in high definition. It must be said that these aren’t the best examples of the format, but the picture and sound is definitely better than the previous DVD release.

It was re-imagined in 1992, with a third incarnation running between 2001 and 2007 that saw a return to the original conception and characters (but this time produced as a collection of audio plays) – all three are connected by having the dubious honour of being cancelled midway through their scheduled runs.

You can now get all eight years of the original programme on DVD, with prices starting at £2.99 each. It’s worth pointing out that individual series’ come with their own unique extra features, which include audio commentaries and documentaries (amongst other stuff).

Surface: The Complete Series £4.33

Surface: The Complete Series contains a total of four cheap DVDs

It seems to be a unique thing to the American television networks that some programmes get cancelled either mid-way through airing or when a show hasn’t had a natural conclusion. This is very much the case with Surface, which was about how the discovery of a massive underwater creature leaves the fate of the world in the hands of a small group of adventurers.

You’ll find all 15 episodes ever made in the four disc Surface: The Complete Series boxset. Also included is a featurette looking at the effects used in the making of the show, along with just over 25 minutes worth of deleted scenes.

The Orphanage (Blu-Ray) £7.98

The Orphanage (Blu-Ray) is one of those cheap DVDs that will scare the life out of you

The Orphanage is a Spanish-language horror film about a woman who returns to her childhood home, an orphanage. Laura plans to turn the house into a home for disabled children, but a problem arises when she and her husband realise that their son believes he has a masked friend with whom he will run away – after an arguement, Simón is found to be missing…

High definition has been very kind to this movie, as it looks and sounds absolutely fantastic. You’ll probably also be glad to hear that there are a fair few extra features included as well, such as seven featurettes, interviews, nine deleted scenes, storyboards, and a Q & A with the director.

Amazon have The Orphanage, on Blu-Ray, available for £7.98 – for more information, click here.
