Columbo: The Complete First Season

Columbo is an iconic figure in television history, probably because of his dirty mac - the fact that he solved dozens of cases pales into significance when compared to that sexy piece of clothing.

Columbo: The Complete First Season contains 7 feature-length episodes, as well as the pilot movies Prescription: Murder and Ransom For A Dead Man.

Still Game: Complete Series 1-5 Boxset £17.93

Still Game: Complete Series 1-5 Boxset

Chewin’ The Fat was very popular here in Scotland, so when Still Game started (it’s by the same folk) it was a given that it would be equally popular. What has been slightly surprising is that English audiences have been tuning in in big numbers as well.

It’s a comedy based around the lives of two pensioners, Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade, who live in a fictional part of Glasgow called Craiglang. Along the way we meet their various friends, who vary from local drunks to crooked bookmakers…

Asda have the Still Game: Complete Series 1-5 Boxset available for £17.93 - for more information, click here.

Shameless: Series Four - Limited Edition £7.03

Shameless: Series Four - Limited Edition

Channel 4 does make great comedy shows like Father Ted, but not all of them are universally accepted - as is the case with Shameless. Personally I’m not a big fan, although some of it is quite funny (other people think it’s the best thing since sliced bread).

The Shameless: Series Four - Limited Edition DVD set contains every episode from the fourth series, as well as some additional bonus material.

Cars (Blu-Ray) £12.93

Cars (Blu-Ray)

The great thing about high definition is that it makes films look even better than they did before - this is especially true with animated movies. No matter how good you thought it looked before, the picture is vastly superior now.

Lightning McQueen is a cocky race car who crashes whilst speeding on his way to a big race. He is sentenced to carry out community service in the town that he ruined, and must learn to bond with and respect the inhabitants of Radiator Springs in order to get out of there and back on the racetrack…

If you fancy the Blu-Ray version of Cars, click here to buy it for £12.93 from Asda.

The Outer Limits: The Original Series - Seasons One And Two £5.93 Each

The Outer Limits: The Original Series - Season One

Modern TV isn’t all that scary, unless you count Big Brother - I can’t believe that people like that either exist or are allowed on screen. Anyway, I digress… the original version of The Outer Limits was genuinely terrifying.

Even though this is from the 60s, it’s still very watchable. Although the "monster of the week" thing seems a little tedious after a while, you can’t help but enjoy this collection.

Click here to buy The Outer Limits: The Original Series - Season One for £5.93 from Asda.

The Outer Limits: The Original Series - Season Two

Picking up where the first season left off, The Outer Limits: The Original Series - Season Two is 17 more episodes designed to scare you half to death. For this reason, I’d advise people of a nervous disposition to stay away!

One particular episode in this season is Soldier - once you’ve seen it, you can easily see where James Cameron came up with the idea for The Terminator.

Retro Revival £5.83

Retro Revival

It’s always good to have a laugh every once in a while, just as long as it’s not at someone getting hit with a car or something (not cool). During the 80s there were many good comedy films made, and the Retro Revival pack contains three of the best.

The Goonies launched the careers of at least one person you’ve heard of - Sean Astin. It still holds up as an excellent kids comedy to this day (even if the effects are a little off).

Gremlins has been thrust back into the limelight recently due to the BT adverts with Peter Jones, and it too is still quite funny to watch. Just remember not to feed them after midnight!

The final movie in this collection is Police Academy. This first in the series is also the best, with Steve Guttenberg putting in the comedic performance of his life. The bloke who does the funny voices is great also.

Asda are selling this set for just £5.83 - click here for more details.

Mission: Impossible - The Ultimate Missions Collection (HD-DVD) £9.99

Mission: Impossible - The Ultimate Missions Collection (HD-DVD)

Tom Cruise is often criticised in the press, but the one thing you can say is that the guy knows how to put bums in seats. Almost every single one of his films have been successful at the box office - just a shame that we often forget that.

Mission: Impossible - The Ultimate Missions Collection (on HD-DVD) contains each of the three Mission: Impossible movies made so far, in glorious high definition. The first two are excellent, whilst the third is not quite as good but still better than your average action flick.

Zavvi are selling this set for the crazy price of only £9.99 - click here for more details.

Davina: The Boxset From £5.97

Davina: The Boxset

Davina: The Boxset contains two workout DVDs, both presented (and actioned out by) Davina McCall. I will say this - she has an incredibly annoying personality that winds up many people, but she also has a fantastic arse. I am such a chauvinist.

Both men and women should get something out of this (probably for different reasons!), as the exercises in My Power Of 3 and My 3 Thirty Minute Workouts are quite easy to do.

Click here to buy this set for £5.97 (as long as you spend £15 or more, otherwise it’s £7.42 delivered) from Amazon.

Red Dwarf: The Bodysnatcher Collection £17.99

Red Dwarf: The Bodysnatcher Collection

Ah, Red Dwarf. Possibly my favourite TV show ever made, whilst at the same time being one of the most infuriating - the amount of nonsense that has gone on about making a film has left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth. Shame, as it’s one of the best British comedies of all time.

Red Dwarf: The Bodysnatcher Collection is a four disc set containing every remastered episode from the first three series’. Not only do you get these, but a huge amount of bonus material as well.

Torchwood: The Complete First Series £16.93

Torchwood: The Complete First Series

Yes, Torchwood: The Complete First Series was featured only yesterday as part of the great sale at Play.com - in this crazy world of the Internets, though, prices can change faster than a speeding bullet. That’s what makes it so exciting.

Anyway, this show is a spin-off from Doctor Who and is set in modern-day Cardiff. Captain Jack Harkness and a group of criminal investigators are charged by the British Government to find and bring back alien technology, as well as respond to any extra-terrestrial threats posed to us on Earth. Sounds like a right laugh.
