Planet Earth: The Complete Series (HD-DVD)

Since HD-DVD was announced as being dead, it’s become quite easy to pick up some really fantastic bargains - search this site for some great examples. I can highly recommend grabbing what you can while it’s in stock, as eventually stores will completely run out.

Planet Earth: The Complete Series is one title that has been going up and down in price quite a bit recently (as has Heroes: Season One), but it’s now at the lowest it’s ever been. To be honest, I’d pay more than this for this set as it’s absolutely brilliant - but that’s just me!

If you fancy this four disc set, click here to get it for £14.99 from Play.com.

Fireman Sam: The Big Freeze £2.96

Fireman Sam: The Big Freeze

I remember how much I used to like Fireman Sam. If I’m being honest, I still quite like him now - probably because he’s a bit of a stallion as he struts around Pontypandy like some sort of God.

Fireman Sam: The Big Freeze contains three episodes of the newer version of the long-running kids TV show. You also get a photo gallery included as well, which is lovely.

The Comic Strip Presents: The Complete Collection £17.93

The Comic Strip Presents: The Complete Collection

The 80s was a pretty good year for British comedy - except that Ben Elton also became quite popular, so there’s always a drawback somewhere. Stars such as Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson (the guys in Bottom and The Young Ones) started breaking through into the mainstream.

The Comic Strip brought together some of the biggest stars of the day, including the aforementioned Mayall and Edmondson, for some feature-length films - many of which are brilliantly funny.

Laurel & Hardy: The Collection £49.99

Laurel & Hardy: The Collection

At first glance you’ll think that Laurel & Hardy: The Collection is quite expensive - just remember that for your money you’re getting 21 discs filled to the brim with some absolutely classic comedy. Some of the films are in colour as well, which is pretty rare.

I think that many are put off by the fact that it’s silent comedy, but really you shouldn’t - some of this stuff is funnier than the "comedy" we get all the time now. Yes, I’m looking at you creators of Superhero Movie.

Life On Mars: Series One And Two £12.83 Each

Life On Mars: Series One

Life On Mars was incredibly popular when it was shown on the BBC - so popular, in fact, that there’s a US version on the way. It’s bound to either sink like Red Dwarf USA or Coupling, or be a roaring success like The Office. My money’s on the former.

After a near fatal accident, Sam Tyler wakes up in 1973. As he’s a police detective he soon joins up with the local police force, and must come to terms with their archaic technologies. He soon becomes an integral part of the team, but he must adapt to an almost completely new way of thinking…

To get Life On Mars: Series One for £12.83 from Asda, simply click here.

Life On Mars: Series Two

Life On Mars: Series Two sees Sam Tyler back on the beat, still struggling to come to terms with the fact that he’s still back in 1973. Well we’d all be a bit off if we discovered we’d gone back in time. At least I would, anyway.

Even if you’re no a big fan of police shows, you’ll enjoy this one as the storylines are very compelling. In this series you might even discover whether or not Sam can get back to his old life - I won’t spoilt it for you!

Asda also have this series priced at £12.83 - click here to buy it.

Home Alone Collection £9.93

Home Alone Collection

The Home Alone films have been good. Sorry, I’ll correct that - the first two Home Alone films were good. It’s the old story of a company thinking they have a good thing and stuffing it up by putting out crap.

Home Alone 3 and Home Alone 4 are probably two of the worst films ever to grace the small screen - yes, they are so bad that they couldn’t even get a cinema release.

Click here to buy the Home Alone Collection for £9.93 from Asda, and remember to only watch the last two if you want to see how NOT to make a film.

El Nombre £1.96

El Nombre

Kids will love El Nombre, even if the episodes are very short - in fact, they only run for 5 minutes at a time. This either means they can watch whenever they like, or they can get annoyed at how short the episodes are. Here’s hoping it’s the former!

If the show doesn’t ring a bell, it was aired on the BBC a few years back. It was fairly popular, but probably a bit too wacky for some people to stomach - hence the reason only 26 installments were ever made (all of which are contained on this DVD).

uWish have this DVD available for only £1.96 - for more information, click here.
