Heroes: Season One (HD-DVD)

Heroes was a massive success when it first appeared on our screens last year - even though it started off on the Sci-Fi channel, as soon as BBC Two started showing it most were hooked.

It’s the story of ordinary people who discover that they have extraordinary powers, and their struggle to cope with the responsibilities that come along with this.

Click here to buy the HD-DVD release of Heroes: Season One for £12.99 from HMV (the standard DVD version of Heroes: Season One is almost double the price at £25!).

Lee Evans: 1994-2005 Boxset £7

Lee Evans: 1994-2005 Boxset

There’s many decent stand-up comedians in the UK - in fact, we’re very lucky to have as many as we do in all honesty. Lee Evans is one of the best of the bunch though, with his madcap zaniness (is that a word?) being particularly infectious.

The Lee Evans: 1994-2005 Boxset contains six of his live shows, along with a couple of live CDs - if this interests you, be sure to also check out Billy Bailey: The Classic Collection for more great comedy.

Instore at Tesco you can buy this set for the ridiculously low price of just £7 - I did!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season One £7.99

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season One

When Buffy The Vampire Slayer first hit our screens, I’ll be honest when I say that I wasn’t expecting much - however, it turned out to be one of the best US imports for quite some time. And what better place to start with than Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season One?

This three disc set contains every episode from the debut series along with audio commentaries, an interview and a music video.

Interesting that Joss Whedon (who went on to create Serenity) has talked about bringing the show back in some form - who knows if it will happen though.

If this takes your fancy, click here to buy it for £7.99 from Play.com.

Wolf Creek (HD-DVD) £4.68

Wolf Creek, on HD-DVD, is one of those cheap DVDs worth getting if you can play it!

Between 1989 and 1992 there were a spate of murders which plauged Australia’s Hume Highway. Wolf Creek is based, in parts, on this horrifying event.

When three friends on a road trip get a lift from a semmingly friendly local, their very lives are in danger. A very gruesome horror, which is definitely not for the faint of heart!

Click here to bad the HD-DVD release of this film for £4.68 from Asda.

Paddington Bear From £2.99

Paddington Bear: Please Look After This Bear

Paddington Bear used to be something of a hero to me. Here was a small bear who decided to go and leave his country (Peru) and embark on the journey of a lifetime - sadly, I grew up and realised he was just a puppet.

The Paddington Bear: Please Look After This Bear DVD contains 12 episodes which are sure to delight small children and adults of a certain age!

HMV have this available for £2.99 - for more information, click here.

Paddington Bear Goes To The Movies

Even though I realise he’s not real (sorry to disappoint anyone out there!), Paddington Bear really is a bit of a rebel for someone so small and furry. Imagine leaving home with a suitcase and nothing else - he’s like a modern day version of Christopher Columbus, or something.

The Paddington Bear Goes To The Movies DVD sees our pal interpretating Singin’ In The Rain on a trip to the cinema, and finding himself in trouble as he tries to raise money to buy Mr Brown (not Gordon) a birthday present.

Click here to buy this for just £3.99 - again from HMV.

Dexter: The First Season £13.50

Dexter: The First Season

I’m not sure why I didn’t watch Dexter when it was on the FX channel, but I did manage to catch it when it was shown on ITV recently - such a great show. It does seem a bit weird rooting for a serial killer, but he only kills other killers so it doesn’t seem as bad.

Dexter: The First Season contains every episode, along with a documentary and a couple of audio commentaries.

Click here to buy this boxset for around £13.50 from the US arm of Amazon (this is a Region 1 release, so please make sure that you can play these discs before making a purchase).

300 (Blu-Ray) £10.98

300 (Blu-Ray)

300 is based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel of the same name and tells the story of the Battle of Thermopylae, where King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army.

With some genuinely brilliant fighting scenes and some excellent special effects, this is a great action film set against a beautiful backdrop.

To get the Blu-Ray version of this movie for £10.98 delivered from Axel Music, simply click here.

If you can play HD-DVDs, then the (cheaper - it’s £4.99) HD-DVD release is part of the Play.com HD-DVD offers posted earlier.

Son Of Rambow (Blu-Ray) From £11.98

Son Of Rambow is a film about a boy who sees a pirated copy of Rambo: First Blood and decides to become a filmmaker. He and his friend become popular through making their films, but when a foreign exchange student turns up things begin to change.

It’s an inoffensive little film which is in the same sort of area as Little Miss Sunshine and the like, as it’s quite charming. Fans of 80s stuff will probably quite like it as well.

Click here to preorder the Blu-Ray version of the movie for £11.98 (as long as you spend £15 or more, otherwise it’s £13.43 delivered) from Amazon.

Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy (Blu-Ray) £10.99

Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy (Blu-Ray)

The Pirates Of The Caribbean films have each been brilliant, even if the third one was a little too dark for children (killing kids at the start seemed a bit wrong for a Disney movie). Bit odd that they’re based on a theme park ride, but whatever works!

Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy, on Blu-Ray, contains all three in high definition - they’re all packed to the rafters with hours of bonus material as well, which is nice.

Click here to get this set of cheap DVDs for £10.99 from Play.com (I’m almost positive this is a misprice, so order quickly before they notice!).
